Post by: HeadSmess on January 24, 2013, 01:49:42 AM
whats the minimum requirements for a small portable device that WONT EVER RUN A MACHINE so i can muck around with snippets of gcode when the mood strikes? can i get away with a tiny lil pocket PC? dont have a smartphone and i WILL SHOOT anyone that suggests that option :D

i get my best ideas when im not near a computer.... :'( its like recording music. so many ideas until you hit record  :-\

I understand you question to mean you would like a small PC to play with Mach3, and some programming software like CamBam, and  such.

I just did a search for Tablet PC's, and Best Buy has a bunch of 10.1", touch screen tablets running Win 7, and Win8. Considering the huge market evolving with all the Android tablets, the PC tablets are slightly more $$.

Best Buy has one however, that sells for $413.00, and is a real PC, not an Android oversized phone. I am sure that these size devices have optional keyboards for number and letter entry. Sounds like a pretty cool little computer.

Here is the specs from their website.

;) you got it in one. something small and handy for experiments during idle moments :D

such as... i was fiddling with trying to get rotary movements during a G3 arc while retaining the "index" of the spline wizards code i was chopping up.

got it in the end...had to reshuffle some G90/G91 calls, and viola! it wasnt just a case of cut and paste, dammit!

by solving these sorts of quandaries on my own, i learn more than if it had been shown and explained and forgotten and then id be too embarrassed to ask again...

10.1" still isnt as small as im picturing but my head makes unusual pictures, so i dont trust it anymore...

thanks :) taking the time to answer, think, and post specs! appreciated :)
