Hi to everyone
Just like a bit of clarification with homing, on vertical and gantry milling/routing machines the home position is normally bottom left hand corner now I have just converted my 3 axis gantry router to a full 5 axis and I have been told that all five axis machines home to the centre of the work table now I personally have not heard that before and was wondering if anyone out there could clarify where the home should be for a 5 axis router??
Thanks
Alan

Where a machine homes is strictly a matter of personal preference, because it really doesn't matter to the operation of the machine. There is no "right" position for home, except, arguably, for the Z axis home should always be full up. Most machines have X/Y/Z homes at one extreme of travel.

Hi Alan,
Perhaps you are referring to the Part Origin ?
If so, then in a 5 axis mill (trunion w/ rotary) might use the center of the level chuck as 0,0,0,0,0.
Would make sense to me, but that doesn't require much. ::)

Hi Ray and Russ
for your responses much appreciated, I just wanted to make sure that I was not doing anything wrong by using what i class as the normal homing position, the machine is using a five axis head X,Y,Z,B,C,
Thanks again
Alan
