Title: Dolphin Lathe tool dra files
Post by: Hood on January 12, 2013, 06:22:55 AM
I am currently making up some lathe tool DRA files for Dolphin Turn to use in the simulations, if anyone is interested in them I can attach.
They are metric tools with different nose rads in each style, so far I have
SVJB 2020 in 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 nose rads
PDJN  2020 in 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 nose rads
PCLN 2020 in  0.4, 0.8 and 1.2 nose rads

Although these are metric designations they should also work fine for imperial people, they will just have to  convert the nose rads to know what to choose.

Is there no end to your kindness and giving generosity?

Maybe I'll be able to use these someday as I have not yet purchased Dolphin.

You inspire me, sir-  :)

Purely selfish Dave, I am doing them primarily for myself :)
Will upload later on with the ones I have done, I hope to get some boring bars done as they are the ones that really can save crashes as you see the part being wiped out in the simulation if things are wrong :D

Oh and just in case you dont know, simply changing the approach in the tool selection will change it from front or back style tool, see screenshots.

Thanks Hood, and hopefully I will be able to use them. Should I create some at a later time I'll just post in this thread.

That would be good Rich.
I will have to do some smaller section tools (12mm) in a bit for the wee lathe so will also put them here.

Thanks, Hood, I too have Partmaster (Dolphin) Turn. The metric tool dra files will come in handy.
Thanks again.

Hi Hood,
Thanks for sharing your work.
To make these tools do you use DCAD to draw the tool or some other program then export as dxf and import in DCAD then save din .dra?
In other words, what process do you follow to make those tools?

Some of them i drew in cad others I downloaded from the tool makers site as dxf. You put the DXF into DCAD and trace round the tip first making sure you call it Tip and then you can trace round any other parts of the tool you wish to show. There are instructions in the Turn Help files, open the Help and on the Search tab type in Tooling and when you press list topics you should see as in pic below, click on the "Tooling - Define Turning Tool Using a Drawing" then press display and you should get the info.
Its fairly easy to do but you have to orient the tool, pick the correct datum  and fill in the angles/names etc all correctly or it doesnt work right.
