Sounds like you may have either the spindle pulleys set incorrectly or you are calling a spindle speed that is lower than you have set in the spindle pulleys.

thanks for the reply hood. changed a few settings no longer gettin pwm bumped to min but getting no spindle action. rpm flash's up and quickly  drops off. even after searching forums till not positive about motor output/output signal settings should be. not entirely sure how this mod board works with nothing in regards to settings found online orsent with kit.

Hi David I am very interested in this kit for my cnc SX3 ;D but I did notice from Hood's pdf that it appears to be for 110v not 240v as we have in Aust.

gday Nick,  yes you are right is for 110v unfortunately found this out too late and the hard way  by fryin transformer on the plugin board. i have replaced that with a suitable 240v transformer and am currently still tryin to get spindle operational as some other fault must of occured and still tryin to fault find it.

hi Nick, with the 110v transformer changed out to a 240v one and after finding a tiny defect on pcb(under microscope) i now have some spindle action!!!  about to connect through g540 will let you know how ends up. anyone able to confirm output pin settings/ pwm settings with g540 in mach 3.  cheers,   Dave

Does the G540 manual not tell you what the settings should be?

Hi dave this is good news ;D  I just wish I had the electrical smarts to change the transformer  :o and I'm running my machine from a Promica controller and the maker of this system seems to have vanished :-\ I suspect I would have to find some way of getting a pwm signal.

There are quite a few spindle controllers available, think you are in Australia so maybe Peter Homans ones would be a good choice. I have used a step/dir to analogue one from Peter and it was very nice.

there is nothing in the g540 manual in regards to settings for spindle control for the bldc motor, vsd & add on board as the way it is controlled in sx3. was just hoping somebody had been through this procedure could cut out the trial error process. i have had dealings with peter and he is good and helpful but when i communicated with him in regards to spindle control for this setup he couldnt suggest recommend anything. purchased na machining camera from him that have had troubles getting to work left messages for him to call me- still waiting. Nick not too difficult to change out transformer i just desoldered the 110v trans from board soldered 4 x fly leads and have a seperate stand alone 240 - 9v  transformer. you could also use a 240 to 110v stepdown trans before main connection to add on board and would work fine. so you havent been able to get hold of promica? i was trying to contact them unsuccessfuly  for a while too. was interested in their hardware kit for hv-6 rotary table. never heard back. bit strange, what i have seen of their gear looks impressive.

Dave I may have to look at getting 1 of those controller boards and make the mod with some help for a friend  ;) I have one of the hv-6 setups from promica  ;) it is pretty good. I have his 4 axis IC3A control unit which is tidy but I had issues with the optical sensor inputs to the axis cards.A  friend spotted a few dry joints on the card which I re soldered and they now work fine ;) It is quite strange how Marc has just disappeared he was very good with his after sales service.
