Title: Always Kiss Me Sign
Post by: budman68 on December 26, 2012, 03:07:25 PM
Here's a sign I made for my wife for Christmas this year. She's always loved this saying as she's a firm believer in it  , and who am I to turn down a kiss (or 3) from the person who has stood by me through thick and thin.

It's made from Mahogany, and the polished copper brackets are simple 1/2" pipe brackets for copper piping. I painted the VCarved letters in 14kt gold based paint, but wasn't sure if black would have been better. I'm glad I did it this way as she just loves it as she says it's more of a classy piece this way.

Thanks for looking, and Happy Holidays to all-
Dave

Oh yes, I certainly did see that !
Meant to respond as you posted but was out of town and just briefly got a chance to check the forum.
That was really cool with the back-lighting.
Very nice Dave,
Russ

It's funny, if I had more room (and time!) here, I actually joked about building one of those as she loves metal signage.

Ah well,
Dave

Need to fix some of the software and add some more hardware.

IF you have a specific design in mind send it down.

Thank you for the offer, Terry, you are very kind to do that.

Good to know the machine is running so well for you, although not a surprise after seeing what you're capable of around here  ;)

Happy New Year!

Dave here is a sample of font styles  Square, rounded, Script, Simple script.

You can have it boxed similar to your wooden one OR have it OPEN font with a simple tie bar across the bottom.

OR ????

Terry, while I appreciate the VERY kind gesture, don't worry about doing something like this for us, use your time for yourself to do something for YOU.

I really do honestly appreciate it, it's folks like you that make this world a decent place to live in -  ;)

Sincerely,
Dave

DAVE I am retired and have volumes of free time(;-) IF your wife likes metal art lets give her a sample to play with.

Over the years I have MADE about 1 of everything for ME.

No obligation on your part it is just a gift. IF you would rather have something else you have seen or thought of name it or send me a picture or drawing. The old puters are CRYING for something to do (;-)

I do a mean Husband and wife name thingy   (;-)

Husbands and wives are important.

Your Choice, (;-) TP

Wait I see the problem now. You are afraid that the Wife will love it and then YOU will be chained to a new plasma table in the workshop cutting metal art all day and half the night. While she cruises the art fairs selling your SLAVE labor. (;-)

Metal art is unique in its VERY broad market of artistic ideas.  You are ONLY limited by your imagination.

Just a thought(;-) TP  :)

:D lol! You're too funny, Terry, but you're possibly right!  ;D

I'll tell ya what, I'm going to talk to my wife and see if she has any ideas for you. I'm sure she's got something up her sleeve.

Thanks again, my friend-

Dave ,I was looking at your lithopane and noticed your table. How does that work for you?
I need to build another table for my cnc and I'm the kind of guy that screws his work down to a 5/8 sheet of cabinet grade plywood , when it gets too bad I replace it . I bought a black wallnut stump for $25.00, sliced it on my sawmill ,gut 6 nice 5 quarter slices about 25"x 18", carved 2 of the boards  Last supper by DA Vince. Any way I did not want to drill and screw the boards down , What you have would work perfect for what I want to do . Could you tell me what you used for track ,and does it work well with wood dust , or do you have to take a lot of time keeping it clean.

Hi, John,

I used the 8020, 1010 series, specifically the 1050 single slot extrusions on my table as can be found here from 8020 on ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/8020-T-Slot-Aluminum-Extrusion-10-S-1050-x-48-N-/370227288701?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5633441a7d

I then used HDPE as the sacrificial board between them and love it. The bolts for the clamps are regular 1/4-20" carriage bolts with flats ground down just a little bit on each side and they slip right in the T track without rotating when clamping down a part.

I also have different sub-sacrificial boards that I use when I need to cut through the material. Much cheaper and "modular" this way, at least for the way I do things, but obviously everyone has their own way of doing things.

You can see a bit more on how installed it here:

Hope that helps,
Dave

Thanks Dave,
I like the way you do things ,Ive gut a lot to learn.
My cutting area is 48x18 I need to learn how to stop, move my work piece over, and continue with with a larger carving , any ideas on were I can go to figure out how to do this? I have an 18' 6x8 beam to do with oak leaves and A coat of Arms in the center.
As soon as I figure out how to post pictures ,I will ,of my work and my machine.

Hi, John,

To do longer jobs than a table can handle, I make a series of dowel pin holes down both sides of the job, that match a series of dowel pins in the spoilboard. That way you can break up the job in smaller jobs. Set your piece up on the first set of pins, then run the first program. Next, slide the job down onto the next set of pins and run the second program, etc.

Now obviously this is easier with some CAD/CAM programs as opposed to others (I use Vectrics VCarve Pro), but once you get the idea of how to do it, it becomes easier to implement as well.

Hope that helps,
Dave

Looks like you're moving right along.

Great software, Vectric is, I'm looking forward to the upgrade coming soon.

Dave, is there something in V Carve that you know of, that tells you how to do this ,I see at times things that refer to this but can't seem to find anything that explains the how to stop, move the work piece and then continue.
Some more pic's of my first machine build, and what it could do, worked well but slow, that was about 2 years ago.

Nice work there  :)

There is a feature called "tiling" that will help with this. You should have a look at all the video tutorials Vectric offers as they are extremely helpful. There's one in there on tiling, go here, and I think it's video #10.

http://www.vectric.com/WebSite/Vectric/support/aspire3_vcp6/aspire3_vcp6_tutorials_tut_mach.html

By the way, you should start your own thread on your machine builds as half the folks here aren't getting to see the pics as they're buried in this thread.  ;)

Thank you Dave, that was the vidio I was looking for, I've passed over it a hundred times and never knew what it was . I just have to let the beam dry a little more and by then I should be ready to go at it. Thank you again, you are a grat help.
I'm an old dog trying to learn new tricks.
