Title: M4a & Mach3 startup ???'s
Post by: sammy556 on November 14, 2012, 03:46:12 PM
Hello & Help
We got a new M4a mill & installed the Mach3 software , never got the x4xml file , found one on the net & loaded it . after trying a few things i can get z to home out but x & y just run past the limits . the home switches show they're working .  Any help would be appreciated !!
            Thanks , Steve

When you tested the switches did both the limit AND the home led light up or just the limit led?

I don't see any logical reason for it NOT to work IF the Homes are showing trips. Perhaps post your XML file and have HOOD take a look see.

As Terry has stated it would seem your pin assignment is wrong for your home switches. In ports and Pins, Inputs. Change X pin for the one Z is using, Change Y for the one X is using and change Z for the one Y is using.

Is that the xml you downloaded or the one you are actually using?
There is something weird about it but as yet i have not been able to work out the cause.
If it is the one you downloaded then please attach the one you are actually using.

Hood , you guys were right , i reversed x home & y home and it correctly homed out . That xml file is the one i started with , just having to try to  get things working one step at a time , next is getting spindle to stay on , command  s100m3 and spindle turns on , runs a couple seconds and stops ,,,,, this is a learning experience !!

If you attach the xml you are using now I will see if I can find the spindle issue.

What kind of spindle motor/driive do you have? You have it set as Step/Dir but you dont have the spindle relays option set.

Hood,
The spindle driver is a Delta VFD-M 220V 1.5kW
Motor is a Mav3 80-4, 1.5hp, 1.1kW, 4 pole, 220V
Thats the best I can do, thanks for your help.

Do you have any info on how the VFD connects to Mach?  Any links to a manual download? There has to be some form of spindle control board, that may be built into your control board or may be a seperate component but really need manuals to know.

You need to set the spindle settings as in the first document, your xml has it set as Step/Dir and it should be PWM, look on page 59.
