Title: ventric problem
Post by: Magicman on November 02, 2012, 09:47:32 PM
I just made a new Gcode file using ventric 2d. When i load it into mach3 the whole thing is shrunk left to right. looks fine in Ventrics but does not work in Mach3. I am VERY new to CNC and Mach 3 so any help is appreciated.

Hi Magicman,

Try this test piece.

If it does not come out square then you may have your steps per unit incorrectly set for your X or Y axis or possibly your X and Y Scale DRO's are not both set to the same value (typically 1.0000).

I used a g0x24 and then measured with a tape and it was acurate. I will try the file though.

Yes i tested the code and yes it gave me a square within a square 3.75 x 3.75 (with a 1/2 bit)

Then it appears the problem lies within your Vectric layout or the Vectric GCode generation.
Which of the Vectric post processors are you using ??

I doubt it's a Cut2D issue. A screen shot would help, but the code appears to look OK in Mach3 here. All of Vectric's products write good code 100% of the time.

Magicman, can you post a screenshot of what you see in Cut2D and what you see in Mach3?

I am exporting to Mach2/3 ATC Arcs (inch). I have also tried Mach2/3 Arcs (inch)

when you select to do the profile in cut2d are you selecting "on the line"?

if so that would explain the size difference.

I cut 1 of the braces yesterday and it worked well. It is when i try to cut all 6 that the problems occur.

Does your machine loose position ??
After cutting all 6 will it return to the exact starting position ??

Yes it is as if it is losing position. But even on the display (mach 3) the tool path is incorrect. I have done some test to to see if it returns to 0 and that functioned well.

This gets more and more curious.

Loading your 'brackets.txt' file here – in the toolpath window, for program limits I get  X Range +0.0000 to +23.1351.

Are you saying that this is an incorrect dimension for the work ?

Sounds like you may have done something wrong in Cut2D then. Can you post your Cut2D file?

I tried that and it would not allow me to post it. I will have to post it with a different extension

Discovered part of my problem. The shaft for my Y is slipping. Probably after i fix this things should be better.

I am pleased that you have discovered a problem and I hope that this will be the cure.

It is probably part of the problem though only time will tell.
