Title: Mach turn issues, please help
Post by: vatorman on October 20, 2012, 12:59:31 PM
Been using mach mill for years and was a bridgeport user for years, Finally got around to converting a lathe but never had a lot of experience with lathes.
Very confused on the setup within mach. Where is 0,0 dumb question I know.. Rapids are extremely fast which are nice but not necessary. Cant figure out why they wont change with ipm .  Another issue is tool post position . Id like the code from the wizards to set tool post position in front, closest to operator. I do not intend on using rear post any time soon. X start and x end seem to be very different from one wizard to another this is where i get very confused. Does this have anything to do with dia. mode. I am in diameter mode which i am also unsure of. I normally dont write my own codes but rely on cad/cam software, wizards and nfs in mill and would very much like the same aspects with turning. If I posted my xml file will this be helpful. Any help would be great.

Where is 0,0 dumb question I know.

X zero is the centre line of the lathe, ie when you command a move to X10 the tool will cut at 10mm(inch) Dia if in Dia mode, or 20mm(inch) Dia if in Radius mode. Z zero is normally set to the end of the stock so all cutting moves would be  a negative Z value.

Rapids are set in Motor tuning so whatever you have as Velocity there is what the rapids will be, unless you have the rapid override turned down, then they will be whatever % you have that set to of the full rapid speed.

You can set the tool to show above or below centreline but that is just a visual thing. The important thing is that as you move your X towards the centre line of the lathe the X value decreases and as you move away it increases. If yours is not that way then you need to reverse the Directions active state for that axis. In the wizards it doesnt matter whether you are in Dia or Rad mode as the code in the wizard should look to see which mode you are in and write the G-code accordingly.

Thanks Hood, You're always very helpful . Greatly appreciated
I just recently was looking for the Turn addons wizard and found it on here I believe you sent me something on that info as well thanks for that btw.  Did the download and it worked. I think I read somewhere that the mill addons license will also work. I dumped the mill wizard addon wizlic. into the c:/ mach 3 folder and still seem to not get a licensed version appear. The turn addon looks good just would very much like to try it keeps says unlicensed version cannot run program . Maybe my license is to old or can I renew it somehow.

Putting WizLic.dat in the Mach3 main folder is all that is needed, if its not working for you after a restart of Mach then you will really need to contact Ron Ginger to see if he can advise.
