Mach 3- Sheet cam - plasma.
<<Cut start is above rapid clearance plane.......... >>
What did I do wrong?? TYIA.
-
You have the position for the start of the cut ABOVE what you have for the rapid clearance position. Look in the tools section for the cut height and check under job options for the rapid height setting.

I am new, so very sorry to be so dumb. I redrew it and opened in sheet cam , ran the post processor and get the same error as before, but last time it gave me 6 of the same error, now it is down to 1. but same error as before. :(
-
In sheet cam can you insert the kerfs like you do in autocad?
-
GOT IT. THANKS for the help.
-
Scam will compensate for the kerf width for you. Just draw to size and specify in your tool setup what the kerf width really is . Then Scam will offset the code to compensate.

-
LOL. Thought I had it......It is making all the cuts twice the size I drew them in Draftsight. I there a place in Mach3 to adjust sizes???? Thanks Again. Tom
-
I.E. I am cutting a 3.5 inch disc with 4---- 3/4 inch holes. I am getting a 7 inch disc with 4------1 1/2 inch holes.
-
well, you can adjust scaling, to the right of each dro, where it says "1" change it to ".5" Probably much better to adjust sizes in cad/cam .
John
-
BEST to get it correct in the CAD side. OR are you scaling it bringing it into Scam ?
(;-) TP
-
I must be scaling it bringing it into sheetcam. Everything works, but it is 2 times the size I need. How do I use scale in S-cam???
-
When you bring in the drawing you will have the option as to HOW you want it brought in from a drawing options page. Select INCH and it will bring it in at 1:1 in inches.
Once in you can measure the drawing objects in Scam.
IF it is still not to scale then yoour problem lies in the original drawing.
Post the drawing and we can check it.

Thanks
-
I can't open your version of the dwg here can you do it in say V14 or a DXF.
(;-) TP
-
It is a vent for a charcoal grill. Thanks
-
The drawing looks OK and it camed out correctly with Scam.
Does your machine MOVE the exact distance it is programmed to ? Are you certain that MACH3 scaling has not been turn on?
(;-) TP
-
I have redrawn this thing 5 times and it does the same thing. Where would I find Mach3 scaling? Thanks for looking @ it.
-
Look to the RH side of the xy dros and see IF there is a yellow led lit up beside each dro.
Have you tested the accuracy of the axis moves? If you command a move of 5 inches does it move 5 inches ?
(;-) TP
-
Can you post an example of your Gcode that cuts it X2 in size?
(;-) TP
-
Trying to figure how how to post the G-code now.
-
?
-
OK the Gcode is correct that only leaves the machine. IF you command a move in X or Y of say 5 inches does it move 5 inches ?
(;-) TP
-
let me draw up a 5 inch line and go check. thanks.
-
All you have to do is command a move from the MDI say G1 X5.000. The machine should move X 5.000 +/- inches.
(;-) TP
-
Drew a 5 inch line and it went exactly 10 inches........
-
All you have to do is command a move from the MDI say G1 X5.000. The machine should move X 5.000 +/- inches.
(;-) TP
cool thanks for the hint
-
OK that means the step per unit setting is wrong in the axis tuning section by x2. Cut the value in half and try again.
(;-) TP
-
Axis tuning section?? where would I find that? I just put a new driver on it but have double checked and the dip switches are set where they are supposed to be. But yes I have a good idea you are correct, now to figure out how to find the axis tuning. lol.
-
Motor tuning and set up?
-
Go to Config then motor tuning look at the steps per settings. You need to set each axis seperately AND don't forget to SAVE each axis as you go.

;D How long did it take for you to get that sharp? worked like a champ. ;D
-
Don't forget to check the Z axis as well(;-)
(;-) TP
-
Speaking of Z axis........It was slamming down to the plate, now it is stopping before it gets all the way down. Specs on the Z are :
Z axis is up/down and settings are lower.

I feel like I am getting close to getting a part cut. LOL.
-
And next I get to play with velocity. It makes a whinning noise while makeing a cut. :)
-
Bring the velocity down to about 200 accel about 25 and see what happens.
(;-) TP
-
Need to get the Z to stop hitting the metal before it fires and drags on the sheet. Any ideas? Thanks.
-
DId you check to see IF the Z moves the correct distance?
(;-) TP
-
Well now it is different (guess I done something else wrong, but it doesn't hit the sheet anymore. It cycles from the top of travel and stops 1 1/4 inches above the sheet. way too high but better than it dragging on the metal. BTW. Z travels about one inch.
I wish i could control the height manually!!
-
YO have not answered the question(;-) Does the Z move the distance programmed ? UNtill you have ALL the axis's moving the correct distance it won't work correctly.
DO you have a floating Z that has a switch to find the top of the material?
(;-) TP
-
I went to Mach3 install/config last night and read, but where do I find that configuration?
-
DID we not just go thru this for X/Y ? It is done the same way for Z.
(;-) TP
-
:o I just don't want to mess nothing up. wife would not be happy. So if I want the torch closer to the table 1630 would go to 2000. ??
Steps per - 1630
Velocity - 90
ACC - 60
Gs - .155411424

NO you move the Z axis 1inch and measure how far it really moved. THEN adjust your steps per in motor tuning untill it is correct.
(;-) TP
-
What is the name brand of the table or is it homemade?
(;-) TP
-
It is a homemade table 48x48. I ran an ESAB shadow 500 and 1000 for about 10 years and never had to do any of the technical stuff. We called maintenance. lol. Decided to get this one so my wife cut cut the pretty yard decorations etc and here I am trying to get everything working right. I sure do appreciate the help. will be cutting mostly 12 and 14 guage. maybe some 20 guage stainless.
-
I really Appreciate the help. Cut out 2 parts and works like a charm. :)
-
Glad you have it sparking(;-)
