Title: Physical Jog Wheel?
Post by: bmwflyer on September 07, 2012, 04:51:18 PM
Can anyone advise me, is it possible to connect a mechanical encoder type jog wheel to Mach? I'd like to make up a pendant with such a jog wheel and drive select switches. Any pointers or reference material etc greatfully received.
Bob.

Yes, have MPG's on all my machines. Simple enough to connect, just have the A and B channels going to inputs then in Mach go to Config menu then Ports and Pins then finally Encoder/MPG page and set the port and pin numbers you have the A and B connected to for MPG1.
Only other thing you likely need to do is go to Function Config menu then calibrate MPG and do the first two steps of the calibration.

Oh for the drive select switches you will need to use inputs as well for each axis, I use rotary switches for this as it saves space. You can then either have a macropump or Brain look at the inputs to select the axis or you can have the inputs set as OEM Triggers and then from Config menu, System Hotkeys you can configure the triggers to whichever OEM code you like, you will find a list of OEM codes either on the wiki or in the sticky near the top of this forum.
