Title: Need Help on indexing for router
Post by: Signguy on July 17, 2012, 11:16:30 PM
What do I need to do so I can route longer materials on my router? My router table is 48" x 96".  the ends are open for what ever lengths of material.
How do I program Mach to restart the routing where it left off ?  I have a 10' sheet of aluminum to route a large oval , I will route the 8' of it. index it,
move the material over & resecure it .  This is where it is confusing to me on how to restart mach whereit left off,  your help needed , thanks   signguy

One way to do it would be to move the sheet along the desired amount jog the axis back to the point on the work where it was last cut  and then just enter the last cut dimensions into the DRO and that will reset your work offsets. I am presuming you will be splitting the code into sections?

I separated the oval file in 1/2 vertically, made 2 separate programs, I secured the 4'x10' alum. sheet @ the left edge of router table, zeroed X&Y,  I cut the left 1/2 program,  I scribed 24" on the material
moved it to the left till 24" lined up on the right edge of the table, re secure material & aligned bit where it left off, zeroed X&Y , started the right 1/2 program , & it routed good , no errors.....
I'm sure there is a better way of doing this , but job is completed...... thanks for all the help  , thankyou Mach3...........signguy

Thats the way I have done it in the past when making name boards for fishing boats.
