Title: CNC CamGrinder (;-)
Post by: BR549 on June 27, 2012, 12:47:03 AM
DO we have any Model Engine CNC Cam Grinders out there (;-) OR normal cam grinders for that matter.

This is one of MY favorite areas.

Have only seen one or two in all the model engineering shows i have gone to. They were modified Sherline lathes to accomplish
the cam grinding and were  not CNC.

A while back I had it all done BUT it may have been purged in a clean up (;-(.

It also did cross over grinding each pass of a lobe pair crossed over to another pair. It was very intense.

A full size Chevy V8 cam required about a million lines o fG code to be loaded. But being sub programmed it required little code being written. The V8 cam would take about 30 seconds just to calculate and load to screen.

The hard part was getting SheetCam to post the lobe  pairing correctly.  Les came through with a lot of help on that one.

AN added point was it could also do CRANK Grinding as well as CAM grinding.

NOW to find the container files for it all (;-(.

Sorry my poor English.

Here is a mechanical one made by a germal guy - I think it's not very difficult to create a cnc solution for.
