Thought I'd share a project that I "finally" finished up today. It's a welcome sign using maple and a maple leaf pattern that I used Minwax Teak oil to finish. This is the first wood sign that I've actually cut on the "almost" completed router, and I've learned quite a bit from just this one job. Just wish I had more time, but the older I get, the smarter I get, and I'm taking a lot of notes as I go along to learn from.
It's 3/4" X 11-1/2'' X 15". It ended up warping just after it was cut out from the material blank, but only about 3/32nds across the width. Not too bad, but actually straightened out a bit over time (about 2 months) before I actually finished with the oil. I guess it relaxed a bit? Moisture content changed?
A few pics and video for you.

Nice work Dave - things like this make all the machine building time worth while.

...ditto ! ! !
Very good job Dave !
Is the pretty wrought iron work yours as well ? (wouldn't surprise me a bit)
Never used Teak oil, will it need annual apps. ?
I hope it weathers well for you, seems almost a shame to expose such a nice piece to the elements.
Would look really nice on the front door, or in the entry way for the "rough" seasons.
Thanks for posting,
Russ

You are so right, Tweaks. 8)
Russ,
Yes, the oil will definitely need maintaining, but rubbing on a couple of coats periodically is worth the "look" that I like in exterior wood projects. I just couldn't get myself to put on a thick poly or a marine spar varnish as it would just ruin that color and natural look. Not only that, but maintaining a heavy clear coat like that is actually more work for exterior wood items as it literally needs to be stripped and refinished every 2 or 3 years anyway. Imagine how messed up this little sign would be after a few of those chores, lol! No thanks, I'll stick to rubbing it down with the oil once (or twice if need be) a year.
Oh, and no, the wrought iron is not mine, but I have thought about fooling with that "art". Maybe some day..... ::)
Thanks again!
