Hi All
Can anyone that uses a USB barcode scanner please tell me how to have Mach3 recognize it as I tried all of the com port settings in the plug in.

Goto Config Plugins
Turn on the barcode plugin
Click on the config box, select the comport. Test it while you are there. IF it does not work then recheck or set the COMPORT (general config)to match the specs on your scanner, try again.
You are using a serial Scanner right?? Does the scanner power up when pulgged in?
IF it scans in a code then you are good to go. TO access it in mach3 from the main screen go to PLUGIN CONTROL then select load program with barcode.

I am Using a USB scanner.
It powers up Ok as I can scan barcodes in notepad. but I cannot find the scanner in Mach3

The Plugin would seem to be for serial port only.

When you look in the Device Manager do you see the USB scanner as a comport???

Here's a guy that says he can supply a driver with his USB readers that will create a virtural port that will be recognized by the device manager.

I like the idea of a USB reader a lot better simply because it doesn't need a separate power supply. I'm going to give it a try. If it works out, I'll report back.

Well, the virtual driver does show up in the device manager as com 4 but Mach 3 still won't use it. Sigh.

There is another way around the problem. Load up the scanner as it normally would beused say in word.
Press the open Gcode button when that windows pops up try using the scanner on the barcode. Thge windows window SHOULD be active on the file name box and the scanner should scan in the filename by barcode.
What barcode mode are you using. I found that 30f9 mode worked very well and was very easy to create the barcodes.

Well, I take it all back. The virtual driver provided by that seller works just fine.
The computer I originally tried it on had been loaded down with a bunch of garbage that made it painfully slow. I wasn't patient enough with it.
Once I tried installing it on a nice, clean machine it installed and runs just fine.

Yes, I can give you the Honeywell stuff, it's freely available.

Pick just about any one of their scanners go to software and you can download the USB Serial driver package.
I don't think that will help you though.
In the driver package is a list of the scanners the driver is supposed to work with. What is not in the package are the simplified instructions and a barcode the seller provided. I'm assuming the seller considers his link private. Without these, I don't think it will work but you could always contact Honeywell support. It's probably all freely available if you want to spend the time.
