Title: Setting up Profiles
Post by: dbrenon on April 24, 2012, 07:38:08 AM
Hello,
I am running 2 separate versions of mach3. 1 comes up no problem and no choice of profile. 1 comes up and asks which profile I would like to use. I tried to eliminate that choice by removing the profiles but mach3 won't let me run without a profile. I really need to run with no profile option so the machine operators can’t get confused.  As far as I can tell I set them both up the same. How do I change this to no profile choice?

You would set the target for the shortcut to open the profile you wish, for example the target below would open the standard Mach3Mill profile

C:\Mach3\Mach3.exe /p Mach3Mill

This one would open another profile

C:\Mach3\Mach3.exe /p Mach3Test

BTW is there a reason you are using two different versions of Mach? Reason I ask is if you are and the driver has been changed between these versions the driver will just be for the last one installed.

Hood,
I am actually only running 1 at a time, 1 is a back up and I would like them to be identical. The drivers, the programs and all the perimeters are the same. Where do I set this target? Do you know why the 1 program took the target without giving me a choice?
Thanks

I am presuming you are using shortcuts on the desktop to start Mach?
If so then just right click on the one that is not loading what you want and then choose properties then enter the profile you want to open from it into the target line like I mentioned above. Take note of the space before and after the /p

To keep a backup there is no need to install Mach twice, just save your profiles xml file and possibly the macro folder if you have custom macros or have tool tables or offset tables. Other things you may want to backup are your licence, custom screensets and associated images, plugins folder.

Alternatively just browse your drive for the Mach 3 folder, right  click and copy then paste the whole folder to a different location on your drive. It is a bit overkill doing that as you are saving a lot of stuff you wont need.

BTW it is often best to backup your xml etc to a location other than on that computer just in case that computers drive dies.

Hood,
Thanks. I have the XML file saved on a stick and I'm doing a total hard drive back up. So WHEN the current drive dies, I can swap out the whole drive.
