Title: Tool Issue
Post by: food227 on March 23, 2012, 10:29:07 AM
I am new to Lazy Turn.   I have printed the manual, read the manual and played with the software.   I built a manual lathe for cutting ice.   I currently use a 1/2 Ball nose end mill with a 5inch cutting edge.   I cut up to 2 1/2 deep in one final pass.   I am trying to do the same thing in LT.   However, I am problems figuring it out how to do it.  I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks in advance
Bob

Bob,
Need to be creative.....
Create a groove tool for roughing and define the tip radius as .25" and set the cut depth for 2.5" or whatever max depth you want to cut at. For any of the rough passes always allow for .24"  clearance from the profile when creating the path.

Create a button tool with a tip radius of .25". Use the button tool to get a single finish pass. The max cutting depth of the
button tool is .25".

In general your just wanting do roughing passes which will allow for one or two finish passes.
The button tool just allows for the tool to follow the contour of the profile.

Hope that helps,
RICH
