Hi All,
I am working with Mach3 for 4 years with no major issues.
Now in jog mode (and program mode as well) M3 is loosing contact with its steppingmotors after a few seconds/steps (random) .
After each try the steppers start for a short while/distance and then stop with no obvious reason.
Grateful for any help..

Hi Mark,
Have you started using a different PC or made any other hardware changes ??
Tweakie.
-
Hi Tweakie, No i had no change in PC or any Hardware , this makes it even more difficult..........
-
Hi Mark,
Bit of a mystery then.
Perhaps checking your voltages at the PSU and controller etc. may be the first step also checking the tightness of all the wire connections may reveal something ??
Tweakie.

Even more complicated when i say that i use the same Pc, drivers and hardware in switchablemode for my lathe and mill.
The hardware all functions ok on my Lathe with LatheMach3
I can however i approach my mill with Mach3Lathe and then i can jog normal.
-
It sounds like you are in step jog mode.
If that is not the case then attach the xml for both lathe and mill.

Hi Hood,
No step mode.
Have files attached
thanks in advance

Seems to jog fine here with the mill xml, I will have a look later on when I get home from work and see if I can find the problem in the xml.

You have the native units in the Mill profile set to inch, it is likely that it is meant to be metric and thus the Velocity and Accel is far too much and the motors are stalling. Set it back to metric and see if that helps.

I have changed setting to mm , but problem remains . thanks anyway Hood.
-
Ok do the DROs in Mach continue to count when you are jogging?
When the motion stops are the motors making a squealing nouse?
Your velocity in Mill is a lot greater than lathe so make sure you have the correct motor tuning in Mill.

DROs stop when motors stop, they dont make any noise functioning ok.
Set the motorsettings very low : no change.
Have an extra (Image) harddisk with original functioning software mounted and problem remains the same.
I just do not understand why everything seems to function ok when i approach my mill with M3Turn .
-
Ok if the DROs are stopping then something is stopping it. Are there any messages in the ticker line? I can jog no problems using your xml so I dont think it can be a setting in Mach but it does seem strange that it works with another xml.
Try using an older xml to see if you can get it working again. You will find them in the xml backup folder. If you rename your xml you are using now then in the backup folder copy one and paste it into the main Mach folder and then change the file extension to xml.

used an older xml but to no effect.
I use 2 different Mach3-softwareprogs: Mach3Turn for my lathe and Mach3Mill for my mill.
Its on 1 Pc with 1 breakoutboard to 3 stepperdrives .
I have made some provisions for a output-hardwareswitch from 2 drives for X/Z to my lathe and 3 drives X/Y/Z for my mill .
When i start up M3Turn for my lathe and leave the Hardwareswitch to the Mill so the output from M3Turn goes to Mills X and Z axis , then jogging works ok

Do you get any message?
Are there any LEDs lit on the diagnostics page?
Hood
-
In Diagnostics: no messages when jog attempt
leds : port1pins: #1#2#3 5#6#7#8 #12 are lid #4 flashes
inputsignals: #1#2#4 are lid
Inp1 led is flashing
Digitize led is flashing
time in int +4.5-+5.7

Sounds like the probe may be the problem, do you have a brain or macropump or plugin unning?
Disable the probe input and see if that helps.
Hood
-
I removed the Jw2 hardware ; no effect
-
I dont have a clue what the JW2 hardware it but it is likely a software issue so if it has a plugin or uses a brain etc disable them and disable the probe input as well whilst trying to find the problem.
Hood
-
Jogpendant JW-2 from cnc-steuerung in germany it uses a scriptfile should is disable this scriptfile?
do not know what you mean by probeinput, and how to disable
-
Yes disable it or any other brain or script that you are using with Mill and not with lathe, that way you can enable one at a time and narrow down the problem.
Probe input is in Ports and Pins Inputs, if you disable it it may help narrow down the issue.

Thanks Hood, i have deleted all my in and outputs and this cures my problem .
So i only have to find out which one is faulty.
Thanks again

Thats what its all about, eliminating one possible cause at a time until you find the culprit. Once that is found then hopefully a way to make it work correctly can be found.
