Title: Y-axis not moving

Hi l am new in this forum. I am a new worker hired by my boss to handle a new cnc machine he bought from China. We trying to use the machine for our jewelry project. The problem is l am very new in cnc machine, as well as Mach3. I received the machine a few days ago from China and try to fix up the machine. My problem now is no matter how hard l tried, the Y-axis will never move. There's no problem with my keyboard jogging,X and Z axis will move accordingly. I tried to applied a G-code, the machine move precisely except for Y-axis. Can anyone explain to me what is going on with my machine?    ???

Sadly a lot of the Chinese products sold are of questionable quality and often there is a hardware problem.
If you attach the xml I can take a look at it and see if the Mach configuration is correct, a link to info on the specific machine would also be helpful.

Hi Ben,

Your .xml file is in the Mach3 folder entitled Mach3Mill.xml or named after whatever profile you are running. Copy it, rename the copy to something like Bens.xml and post it. Hood can then check your Mach configuration and let's hope this is the problem  ;)

It may, at this stage, be worth checking with a continuity tester / multimeter that your parallel port cable is good and that pin#1 is connected to pin#1, pin#2 to pin#2. etc etc. with no shorts between pins.

Hi Ben,

Obviously your PC directory structure will be configured differently but this is where my xml is located.

Actually you'll want to upload the actual file using the "Additional Options" arrow at the bottom of the reply box on the reply page when you reply.

You'll click the arrow and use the attachments area to upload the xml.

Be sure to make a copy of your xml file and rename it to something like Ben1977xml.xml to be sure it will load on this forum as the name has to be unique or the forum will not accept it.

Looks like you are getting close.  ;)

Right click on the xml file in your Mach3 directory and from the menu select copy
Right click on the desktop and from the menu select paste
Right click on the xml file on the desktop and from the menu select rename
Change name to bensxml2.xml and hit return

Attach this file to your post.

This should work, I think  :D

Ben, I dont think that is the right file.  When I open it up, its a blank XML with nothing active and no pin assignments.

If you open mach 3 and are using the stand screen set, then look at the bottom right corner where it says "PROFILE"  this is the name of the XML file you are using.  Browse to your mach 3 folder and find a file with that same name.xml

Do you have any information at all, on setting up your controller ?? (CD or anything) I am trying to confirm the step and direction pin configuration for each axis is correct.

Hi everybody, finally l managed to solved my problem. The reasons why my cnc machine Y-axis didn't move at all is because of the parallel port of my old pentium 4 pc :) I replace it with a new one and my problem solved. Thank you everyone for your precious opinion, especially Tweakie  :)
Now l got the other question to ask. I using Artcam Jewelry to create some 2D and 3D design, my problem is l don't know which file l should export to Mach3 as my G-code.

Sorry, I don't know anything about Arcam Jewel-smith (except that it's purchase price is perhaps beyond my financial budget).  ;D

Hi, Ben,

I would certainly think for the money spent on that software, ArtCam would have a Post Processor program included or at least help from their "support" or possibly their forum?

for artcam, the post processors you want to use are
for flat/flips/indexing use the modelmaster 3 axis flat

For rotary around the 4th axis use the modelmaster rotarty x->a if your rotary is oriented on the end of the X axis
