Nice looking part! I need to build a mill that size at some point... How much did that endup costing in the end? (I could put a 5 axis head on that!)
-
I don't know how much total... We stopped keeping track. Somewhere around a new Bmw 328xi. ;)
I am redesigning my 5 axis head this winter, the only problem is there is a certain software that i love that doesn't yet support 5 axis ;D

Beautiful. I must say I doubted the length of your Z axis for stability.
You have proven me wrong.
Nice looking cuts.

Thanks! I was worried about it too. I added 140lbs of lead to the end of the z tube to help with resonances work pretty well. The z is really heavy and the steel is 1/4 inch thick so it is pretty burly. I can take a 3/4 cut out of mdf with a 1/2 by 2" carbide router bit at 300+ ipm. The z its self is really pretty rigid.

You are not wrong, just less right ::)
How fast do you run that Mill? also I sent you a message off list on the board Chad

I usually take about 1/2 inch bites at around 250-300 ipm. If it is doing CV stuff i have to run about 220 ipm, any faster or slower I get the dredded jerks.

I made something like that 4 month ago... but mine was for a 1:5 model car.
The mold was made in acrylic resin (i'm not sure of translation) and glossy finished.
Good job chad
