Just got my little router put together and it works really well, but the steppers are very noisy when stationary :-\. There are no issues with torque, accuracy, speed, or temperature, they really work well, but if there is a way to quiet them down I would be even happier ;D.
Can any one help?

Tony,
Post info on your drives and how the steppers are wired.
Are you using current reduction when they are stationary?

Ok, I will have to do that tonight, as I am at the office now.

What i am guessing is that you have a switch on the driver for current reduction and when the motors are stationary it reduces the current to the motor.
The motor then dosen't have adequate holding torque ie; it sort of just sits there trying to maintain postion and thus oscilates.
Said a different way the electrical field is not strong enough to hold the rotor in one position relative to the winding.
Could be wrong but that is the only time I experienced some noise coming from a stepper sitting idle.

Makes perfect sence, thanks, I will let you know if you are right.

Thanks Rich you were spot on, all is now good.
