Title: Retract Z on pause option, pretty please?
Post by: pplug on June 22, 2011, 06:22:18 PM
A cool option for us router users would be the option for Mach to raise the z axis and stop the spindle on pause. Then when start is pressed, the option would be given for the spindle to start and the Z axis would be lowered to the job and progress resumed. I believe it could be instituted with a preference setting as to the height of rise or it could default to the safe Z height.

As Mach is implemented now, it's a pain in the backside  to manually raise and stop the spindle.  I use a couple of different cnc controllers and they offer this option. I'm sure this could be done with scripting but I have neither the time or patience to learn how to do that right now. :(

Not the "E" Stop 0r Reset but the "Stop" button already has that feature. I have two external buttons. I use the hold to stop under normal conditions and then hit the "Stop" button. Z goes to it's safe position which in my case is 2" from home and the spindle stops.

Thats interesting my stop button is set for 2" retract as well. I was suggesting the option to raise the z on pause because all the other router control software we have does this action on pause as well as stop. The space bar is also the biggest button on the keyboard and by default, the easiest to hit!

You can set MAch3 up to do all that as well.

Change out the pause button code for CB code then program it any way you like. OR make any other key or button to what every you like.

Yeah, I could do all that but it is a huge PITA when you don't know how to do it in the first place. Right now the end of the marking period is coming and I don't have the time to sit and learn how to do that right now. It kills me because that kind of stuff is right up my alley.
