You will likely be able to use some of the functions with the parallel port but the spindle and feed overrides would need analogue inputs. You could use a PLC with analogue inputs or even a Pokeys or ModIO.

These Siemens overides output a gray code. Not pots as one would expect.

Thanks for the info Mark, so its just sort of steps rather than infinitely variable?

It would still need more I/O than the two parallel ports would offer so PLC, PoKeys etc would be needed.

I would try Peter Homann At MODIO. His Modio is adaptable to grey code encoders. He uses it for tool changers ran with the Modio so he shoud be WELL versed it its use.

Just a thought(;-) TP

Yep,steps, but they can be set in the parameters of a Siemens control to make them what you want.I`ll leave what`s possible in Mach up to you. :D

As you will know Mark, most things are possible with Mach and doing that would be as easy as changing a few numbers in a brain or macropump. :)

Are you sure they are grey code and not 3, 4 or 5 bit binary depending on the resolution?
The majority of controls I have stripped have used this method.

Is gray code not binary?
