Title: Sound Logic Encoder Interface anyone?
Post by: DennisCNC on November 30, 2006, 10:47:00 PM
Any one run one of the Sound Logic Encoder Interface cards? I would like to know what is the max feet rate that it can track, I don't think it will be much trought PPort.
Also how is it working for you?

Thanks

I have one here that I will be working with in a few weeks for Ron... I will be able to tell you more after I get started on the project ..

Brian,

Did you ever get around to this project?

It is on the list to be worked on soon.. I have an OEM that I have to finish working on but after that I think I am going to be good to start working on it :)

Would you like to test it ?

I'm thinking of putting Mach on a machine that will be cutting sink holes out in Granite counter tops, and there is no room for error.  The machine will go slow 5-9 IPM while cutting so there will be enought time to hit the eStop but I don't want to stand next to it all day.  I emailed Rogers a few times about board but didn't get a reply.  I would like to test it!  There is another person on the forum that has the board but didn't get it working right yet.

Just finished a retrofit on a hurco machine center with geckos,us dig encoders, and a campbell combo board. This setup is running 250 ipm easily. The encoder card should be just as fast, its made by the same guy,Jim Cullins. His boards are top quality.

I have e-mailed Ron Rogers a few times with questions about his
pendant.  He was always VERY fast in replying.  I suspect he
has a few days off.

Just sent Ron a test build of the plugIn :)
In this rev you can set the Max following error for each axis and if you are over the max error the system will estop. I am thinking that when you reset the system it will set the axis to the encoder position. This would make it so you could just press cycle start and things would be spot on!

Question,
Instead of using the e-stop, could you use the program safety lockout in general config? Mach would pause, dros would now read actual position off of encoders, program starts back.

I could do that but, I would like to start simple and go up from there. Ron needed to have something a bit faster to run with the board that he has... He will mail me back and tell me what more we need to add :) I can't add to much because of how fast I am calling it...

Being able to reset and the dro resetting to the encoder position would be a great feature.

Thanks Brian,
I know it wouldn't be closed loop with the pause but God it would be close  :). Just thinking out loud.

We have it working and if there is more then .008 following error the motors are stopped :) I will add the code to make it upload the encoder position soon... Should have time tomorrow to work on it.

Brian,

What will the difference be between the plugin vs the current macro pump that is used?

Thanks,Joe.

It will update at 1/40 of a sec and will not need to have a special screen set or macro pump. You also will be able to set the following error.

Sounds great. My customer has showed serious interest in 1 of these boards, any idea how long before the plugin is available?BTW the shuttle express works fantastic. My customer has 14 late model mazak machines and 1 hurco with mach3 that i just retrofitted.Everyone that has seen this machine run is blown away including the mazak service guys.Keep up the good work.

^  You might be doing a retro on all 14 machines soon!
