Title: mach 3 upgrade problems
Post by: fragger6662000 on May 19, 2011, 04:49:54 PM
Hi

I have just upgraded my copy of mach to the very latest locked down version.

I unistalled the old version and then installed the new one.

I have two configurations one for a lathe and one for a mill.

when i tried to use the mill it appears that the lathe config is being applied as the the input apears to be doubled but there is no button to turn of diameter in the mill.

The main reason for the upgrade was to use the backlash comp on the Smooth Stepper but i cannot get it to work.

I have the latest plugin and version of mach.

i have entered the backlash com in the backlash option screen, click enable the OK and restart mach.

i move all the axis in the neg direction the hit reference but then the when i try and jog or mdi i am not getting a comp move at 20% feed.

can someone help.

The only thing that determines whether you have a Turn or Mill profile loaded is by loading a screenset. In other words if you have a .lset loaded then you will be in Turn mode. As you do not have the turn option in Ports and Pins then you are in Mill mode.
It sounds more likely that you have the steps per unit wrong or you have scaling in effect.

Not sure whats wrong with backlash comp as it seems to work great for me but if you attach your xml I will have a look.

the steps could be wrong but when i use MDI and request x10 y10 g1 f100 it positions it to x20 y20 which makes me think that it is in diameter not radius. i will post the xml latter.

i cannot get the SS to work with back comp, do you have to come out of constant move mode?

Yes but if the steps per unit are twice of whats needed then it will go double the distance.

No I use CV.

When I look at your xml I may be able to figure out both your issues, also would be helpful if you could give the following information.
Microstepping of drives if stepper or count of encoders if servo.
Any gearing between motor and screw.
Pitch of screw.

Sorry, i did not make it that clear, the DRO's move to x20 y20 when i have g1 x10 y10 i was not talking about the real world position which would be dependent on the steps

Ok that is indeed different, sounds like you have scaling applied.

I have reloaded mach from scratch by deleting the config xml's and set up the machine again. This has sorted out the axis doubling and backlash is working.

however it appears that when jogging the backlash com is not applied. Is this correct?

i also think the issue before was that the new plugin was not being applied as i don't let mach ask me each time what to device to use as a pulse stream.

Backlash I would think should work when jogging. I never Jog as such as I use a MPG for that but backlash works fine with the MPG so I see no reason it would not in keyboard jogging mode.

You dont need to have Mach ask which plugin to use each time, you just need to do the reset device select when you want to change to a different plugin, once done then you can choose the Dont Ask me Again option and it will load the chosen plugin. Obviously if you load a new plugin in the future then you will need to do this again.

Thanks Hood,

once again i found out a new thing about mach, i thought it would select the last installed not add it to a list that you can select from but remains hidden unless you know exactly what you are looking for.
