Title: Ordered 3 Dugong drives for my Hurco
Post by: Jackal on March 24, 2011, 08:16:38 PM
Hello,
Today I ordered 3 Dugong drives for my Hurco KM3p. Also a CNC4PC C32 B_O_B, DG34 Power board, and a c24 parallel connector.

When  I start taking everything apart & building back, it will be  documented with pictures.

Thanks in advance for all the help needed from you guys.

I've had nothing but great results with my Dugong drives
You'll be very happy.  The tuning software rocks.  One thing to watch out for is hot plugging the usb cables into the drives. They don't like that. Power down the drives first.

Guys,

It ended up with Gecko drives.

After paying for the Dugongs, it took about 8 or 10 weeks to realize they weren't coming.

I got a refund after week 10. :(

The Geckos are easy to get, and you can have a new one in your hands within 24 hours almost anywhere in the world.

After my mill is running good, a spare Gecko 320x ,amt-103 encoder + a few other goodies will be in my spare box.

It scares me to think about taking jobs in and have a Servo Drive go out. Then hear it will be 12 weeks until you can get a new one.

I know, I know, a spare Dugong would help that. ::)

But if something was wrong with my machine/wiring and the spare Dugong blew out before  the problem was found?????

I'll get all of my stuff together and post some pics and a build-up of it.

By waiting until it is finished, it won't be a blow-by-blow showing all of the mistakes and questions, etc.< ( I don't like reality shows because of this. What I had for dinner the night the X-axis servo was installed is irrelevant). ;D ;) :-X 8)

If I do another mill, it will be the same set-up so that parts will interchange.

 (1) spare Gecko will fit either machine, or lets take this off of mill #2 and see if it  fixes the problem on mill #1.

I know, I'm cheap and try to keep things simple. :D

Thanks for all of the help and interest along the way,

Everyone has been great!!!!

Jackal,
Not sure if you have already ordered the Geckos or not. They are great drives and the company is indeed excellent. However have you seen the DMM ac servo setups?  They are brushless AC servos with plug and play connections ready to run for probably less than you will have in your gecko setup assuming you are replacing the motors.  Dunno anything about hurcos so maybe the Geckos will work with the stock motors I dunno... Anyways, if I do another machine It will probably have something like this on it. They actually have a couple different motors you can choose from. Peace

Mato,

That sounds pretty good, but  the machine is already built . Right now the wiring is being cleaned up and all of the conduit straightened out.

The factory Hurco motors were used ( DC servos).

I'll check into those other drives and motors they sound interesting.

Jackal,
Well it sounds like you have things well in hand. Good luck with your conversion. Hurco's are great machines. Peace
