Title: Shift Key
Post by: LeeDove on January 25, 2006, 07:28:00 AM
I have just got a nifty wireless keypad which allows me to use it as a pendant for manual axis control. The only problem is that it does not have a SHIFT key. Does anyone know how I can reassign the Shift in Mach 3 or remap rapid travel to not need the shift key.

There is an OEM code that will do it I think... I will get back to you on that.

No such luck :( So we are going to have to add a littl VB code to make your keyboard work :) We can have a button on the screen to set you to 100% jog and we will write the old slow jog rate to a Var in Mach3. So it will be about the same as having a shift key .... Is this okay?

Sounds fine to me. So in effect you will create a key similar to Caps Lock whic I can assign.

I use the default screens that come with Mach 3. I suppose I would need to use it on the mdi screen and when setting up using offsets.

Press R and you will get FAST JOG and to turn it off press R again :) You can see if it is on by pressing Tab...

Hi Brian,
Where can I look to see your VBscript for this "R" 100% jog activate/deactivate?
Whenever a script is written I like to examine it and hope that some of it will sink in.

Thanks,
 John(bloy)

Go to screen 50 and you should see the button just over the slow jog rate with LED's on each side.

Keep looking and you are going to have my job :)

Bloy,

I think I picked up the same keyboard - no shift key. I downloaded the "fast jog" 1024 file and checked it out. It worked great as long as I was on continuous jog to begin with and wanted to speed things up for a bit. I usually keep my jogging in step mode and hit the shift key to go rapidly to the general area, then I use step to hone in. I modified the VB script to save the prior speed percentage as well as the step/continuous state, so that the "r" key returns to the prior stepping mode as well.  BTW, I used the "insert" key for the ""r" function since this is on the keyboard.

Hi Brian,

I have lost my screen after trying the above screen, all I get now is a blank screen.

O No! You killed it :)

Can you see the screen set 1024.set in the Mach3 directory? If you can go under View/Load Screen and load the 1024.set...

:'( Rats!  I didn't mean to kill your system. I hate it when that happens. A thousand apologies to you, all your ancestors, and your present family!   I downloaded the same file to my machine to make sure I sent the correct .set and ran it on two separate computers. Try it again - you can always get back to a "good" system through the "load screens" dialog. It works for me. There's obviously something important different between us. I am honestly not sure what did it to you. When did it croak? I want to check it out so no-one else gets messed up. It'd sure suck to kill my system in the middle of a part.

I have done that MANY times to others  :o

But A big thank you for fixing my code!

Brian,

Did you get a chance to look at the code? I hope I didn't crash the system. Is there a way to pull it from the forum if it has a problem? I've been a professional software guy for over 30 years, but have not programmed in VB before. If I screwed something up - let me know so I don't do it again. The code seems very straight forward to me.

No hurry. It's working on my system just fine. It's more of a curiosity at this point. If you get a chance - that'd be great. If not tonight - no big deal.

Hi Brian,

Screen working OK, also "shift key" screen works as well, I made a mistake not putting the new screen number in the mach3 directory.

Thanks
Sorry for causing concern.

No problem. I'm glad the pendant is working for you. I'm designing an MPG now to replace the keyboard, which will make this whole thing a moot issue for me. I'm using some inexpensive encoders. Let me know if you want to be kept informed on this.  I expect the whole thing will cost about $40. That's a whole lot cheaper than the devices out there today.

Hi byellin, been a while since your post about this MPG issue. Any progress since?
