Title: Estop help
Post by: tmsmith on November 21, 2006, 05:53:32 PM
I am in the process of setting up my first CNC mill using Mach3 and a Xylotex driver.

First question is how can I set the microstepping on the system?, or check what it set at, default?

Secondly how shoulld I set up an Estop button, someone out there   must have installed a reliable system.
I have seen the description in the mach3  manual but would like  more detail since I am  new at this game.

I think the microstep is dependant on your driver. Do you have any documents on it? I would want the e-stop to disable my driver, spindle, coolant, etc., and Mach (reset) not the PC though.

On the instructions for the Xylotex board I have only got a single sheet, so not much info there. :)

Regarding the Estop you are    implying a mains relay in the power supply  cable to the driver unit, yes

My E stop has two sets of contacts, the first set  I connect to my breakout boards  E Stop pin and the other set I have to the contactors that control my spindle motor. That way when I press the E Stop button Mach is stopped, the drives are stopped, my spindle is stopped and my spindle air brake comes on, in effect everything stops.

You can download the docs at the Xylotex website.
