Title: Another newbie problem.
Post by: tthomp1334 on February 14, 2011, 05:17:01 PM
Having a problem getting the motors to move, Have watched the video trouble shooting several time and still can not get them to move.

Using a desk top with Windows XP and Hobby CNC controller.

Did the printer test and it say’s excellent

Double check all the pin outs to make sure they are right.

When I look at the printer port numbers I have two that come up, One is 0378 and under that one is 0778

When I hit the jog button I hear some nose from the motors but they do not move.

Tried running the G code file Road Runner and the motors make different sounds like they are working but no not move.

Also need to note that I was running the router with Turbo CNC and it was working with it.

Thanks for any input.

Milton

It will be the 0378 one you want.
Check you have the steps per unit in motor tuning set correctly, another thing is you will possibly need the Step Pulse and Dir Pulse set to 5 or possibly even try Sherline mode. You will find Step and Dir pulse on the motor tuning page and Sherline is on main Ports and Pins page.

Do you have the steps per unit set correctly (motor tuning)?
Did you try sherline mode?
Have you definitely got the correct port and pins set for step and direction as if you have them reversed you may see symptoms like you have mentioned.

I have tried the steps per unit form 200 to 2000 with nothing changing.

Will try changing direction and see what happens.

Yes, either internet or a pen drive or something like that to grab your xml. You will then need to rename it so that the forum will accept it, call it tthomp1334.xml and it should be fine. You can then use the additional options on the reply page to browse and attach.

Ok if you can get internet access on the machines computer you can use that to attach your xml, if you cant then you could use a usb pen drive or something else like that to get the xml from the other computer and transfer it to your internet computer.
That will then allow you to attach it to your post.

I don’t even know what a xml is, just shows you how computer savvy I am.

Been trying to get this to work for two day’s, just about ready to stick Turbo cnc back on it. LOL

The xml is your config settings. If you open Mach and look lower right you will see the name of the profile you are using. Next go to your Mach3 folder and look for a file with the same name of your profile, it will have the .xml extension but you may not see that if you have not opted for windows to show known file extensions, so it will just be a file with the name of your profile that you will see.
