Title: 26" ABM Innova long arm quilting automation
Post by: n4807g on February 12, 2011, 08:31:13 AM
Finished adding 2 axis stepper control to my wife's long arm quilting machine.  Total out of pocket cost including HP Touchsmart computer and Art and Stitch digital design software about $4,000.  Took 10 days and I had a blast.  Smoothstepper and Mach3 made this project a snap...thanks to all who designed and maintain Mach3!!!!  Here's a link to my you tube.

PS...Innova's Autopilot CNC system costs $15,000 plus installation.

Great project!  Only 10 days!  I think my fastest project has been 10 months.

Your projects are undoubtedly more complex.  This was about as basic as they come....

Brilliant work.
Do you drive the material take up rollers or is this a manual task ?

The take up rolls could be driven but it wouldn't provide an advantage because the quilt matrix still has to be aligned when repositioned due to the stretching of the fabric.
Thanks for the observation.

Very nice. Is thre any need to sync the moves to the needle movement? Or is it just  matter of moving at the right feed rate so you get net stitches? What about when a major direction change occurs- lie those 'points' on the flower like design.

Great work, now just make the stitches slight random length and it will look hand stitched. May put the Amish out of business, good thing they don't have the internet... Or do they? Most of them have cell phones. They even took out the payphone in a nearby town that has a lot of Amish families. It wasn't being used enough.

Side note: My projects usually take about 4 years.
