Title: 5 Start Acme
Post by: kolias on January 26, 2011, 09:25:57 AM
This is my first time I will use a 1/2-10, 5 start ACME screw and I don’t really know where the 5 start fits in the calculations.

Assuming the stepper motor is fixed at 200 steps per turn and my driver is set at full step:

Acme 10 pitch, 10 turns per 1”, divided by 5 starts = 2

Then at Full Step:  0 x 200 = 200 x 2 pitch = 400 per 1”
or at 1/8 Step: 8 x 200 = 1600 x 2 pitch = 3200 per 1”

Is the above correct?

Thank you

Yes, calcs are correct :)
Please dont screw around with full or half step if you dont have to, you will get much nicer motion from microstepping.

Sorry dont understand microstepping. Do you mean 1/8, 1/16 etc. is better than full or half step?
