Hi -
Got tired of all my smooth stepper problems so I went to the computer show and bought an ASUS motherboard with a parallel port. Yes bought a new system to have a real parallel port on it. Everything went well - got windows 7 installed.
For some reason, Mach 3 isn't installing the driver and I don't know why. Run driver test program and it says driver not sensed or something. During the install it says the driver did NOT install and run driver test program but that doesn't fix it.
Please help -
Thanks -

If its W7 64 Bit then the driver wont work, it only works with 32 bit OS's

AAUUGGHH!!!!!
I do not have 32 bit windows. I bought 64bit..... I am so upset at this.

This is not an inexpensive change. I got tired of all the smooth stepper problems so went and got this with a real parallel port and blah, blah blah....
Frustrating me crap out of me.
This week I installed the new drivers USB and Mach 3 DLL that Greg emailed links to. I got different errors than I had before. So went and got the stuff to build a PC myself...

Sorry to hear that but it does say in bold on the downloads page that only 32bit will work for the driver. You could try using the SS on that computer to see if its any better, could have been poorly implemented USB on the netbook that was the issue.

Yeah - I am just venting because I got a full version of windows 7 (not upgrade) for a great deal at the show and could of gotten 32 bit or 64. Go to best buy or something local it is much more for a full version.
-
Yep, its not good when things like that happen :(

Guess I have nothing else to lose. Will try the new smooth stepper drivers on this PC.

Fingers crossed for you

Thanks! :)

I had it cut 2 small 2x2 squares and it works. Let's see if it gives me anymore problems like it did before. Remember it has not been consistent.

Here is the error that the new driver gives. This just happened on the new machine. :(
-
Ends up I messed up - That was the USB driver 2.08.02 with the new Mach 3 v16bdg DLL plugin.
On my netbook I got the same error message yesterday and Up graded both at same time. New USB 2.08.08 and new Mach 3 v16bdg plugin. To know it came up with old driver and new plugin AGAIN, that may mean the new plugin caused my problems yesterday.
So I am now running the Beta2_v015ogx2 DLL plugin and the 2.08.08 USB driver on the new PC and see what happens.

New Mach 3 DLL and older USB driver - got through three very small scroll saw patterns. See how it goes.
-
Stopped in the middle of the job with no errors. So now on the new PC I am trying old USB and old mach 3 driver.
-
Just placed an order on amazon.com for the 32 bit version of windows 7. :(
-
32 bit Windows arrived.
I had more problems with smooth stepper with the new computer than I did on the netbook. I am so glad that (at least that the 32 bit version is what I need for Mach) I will get Mach 3 running with no smooth stepper and no more problems. Will run a couple of tests once Windows 7 32 bit is finished installing.

Everything works on the new PC under 32 bit Windows and NO SMOOTH STEPPER!!!! :) :)
-
Well heres hoping it all stays good, the parallel port is definitely very resistant to noise.

You know I find that this is kinda odd.
I bought the upgrade version of Pro 7 last year. It has both discs included. Is this something that they changed?
Anyway, I too am having problems with Mach 3 on my desk computer.
I am just trying to learn Turn.
I have no issues at all with my machine computer.
I was just searching for an answer and your issues were a bit different than mine.
I did install 32 Bit. I wanted all my other stuff to work on it and I went through software compatibility crap with Vista.
Good luck with it though.

Thanks!
I bought my 64 bit version at a computer show and it was just the one disk. I got my 32 bit version and everything is working fine. I am glad I did this and do not have any more problems like I did before. Now all the problems I have are of my own error. :)
