Title: Backing up Mach
Post by: scrambled on January 02, 2011, 04:20:52 PM
Hi everyone-

I have had a second computer fail out in my shop.  The first one was when I was building my flame cutter, now I have everything running and have work for the machine it up and dies!

I took the hard drive out, and put it in a second computer.  I can read the files, but I can not run Mach.  So I think all the information is there.

Does anyone have a list of files that I need to copy, so I have a backup?

I have already started on Sheetcam, so I just need Mach.

The xml for your profile is the main one, it will be called after the profile you used and will be found in the main Mach3 folder and not in the xmlbackup folder although these could be used if needed.

The other things may be the macro folder for your profile as it contains any macros, custom or standard and also fixture offsets and tool offsets if you had any.

Screensets and the associated bitmaps if you were using a non standard screen.

Plugins folder if you were using any downloaded plugins.

Brains folder if you had any Brains made.

Think thats about it.

Art has said to just copy the entire Mach3 folder. You should be able to just overwrite the installed version.

The firt thing I would backup is the LICENSE file.

If I copy the entire Mach folder, will that include the license folder?   Or is that hidden elsewhere?

Ah yes, the licence is always a good one to backup ;D
Yes saving the entire Mach3 folder will get everything you need but if you want to save the licence individually then its called Mach1Lic.dat and if you also have the new fangled wizards then its licence is called WizLic.dat
