Title: Can't uninstall
Post by: MSS on December 27, 2010, 01:28:33 PM
Hello All
I installed Mach3 on my laptop following the video, which seems to be out of date?
The Mach3 files are now in the directory - C:/Program Files and not in any particular folder.
I've run into problems and want to uninstall but haven't been able to find the process.

My plans are to run DraftSight for the CAD work, Ace Converter or LazyCam and Mach3 as a work-flow.
I'd like to be able to use my laptop for all of the prep work then use a dedicated PC to run my homemade CNC router.

Right now, I would really like to delete all of the Mach3 files from my laptop and get it running again.
Then reinstall the Mach3 program. I'm not quite sure if I'm supposed to install the drivers (on the laptop laptop) or not?
There seems to be conflicting info on the videos?

Can anyone help?
Does anyone have suggestions or comments re my work-flow?
I am an apple user and really despise the Windows operating system.

Thanks
MSS

Thanks for the reply.

I tried that but Mach3 doesn't show up?

I did find a file named "Uninstall".
IRIMG1.JPG
IRIMG2.JPG
uninstall.dat
uninstall.xml

but no .exe file?

Still don't know what to do?

Thanks

Mine shows up in my programs list so I'm not sure what the issue is, Did you try to remove it by just deleting the folder it was in on you're C: drive? Is this installed on a mac laptop?

EDIT: You're Mach3 in the programs list of the start folder should have an uninstall program in it with the Mach3 .exe. Is that there or no?

Its on a Windows laptop.
The video says to install it into C:/Program Files.
I thought it would build its own folder but it didn't.
I haven't deleted anything because I don't know how to start the process.
I would think there should be some way to get the .xml file started to get the uninstall process going?

Ok I understand you're problem now, Can you get Mach3 to run at all or do you just want to put all the files in a folder so they are not all scattered in the program files folder?

For some reason it thought you wanted it to install there and not its own folder, but, Mach will run the way it installed.

EDIT: Did it not put start icons on you're desktop?

I did not get a shortcut icon to run Mach3 to the desktop but did get;
Mach3Turn
Mach3Plasma
Mach3Mill
MillProfile
Cancel
LazyCam

There is a Mach3.exe file in C:/Program Files hat will start and run the Mach3 program.
I've been able to play around with it and it seems to be working OK?
My problem is with other programs now acting strange and hanging up.
I don't know enough about Windows XP to know if other files got written over or are interfering or overtaxing...?

My installation did not go the same as the video?
But I've been able to follow along on the running Mach program as the video progresses.

Again, my problem is with other software since I downloaded the Mach3.

I downloaded Mach3 yesterday and today I'm having issues with my laptop.
I was hoping to uninstall Mach3 to see if that is why I'm having these other (new) issues.
Is there a procedure to uninstall?

Thanks

If you have the desktop icons then you have the program files under the start menu icons too. Just look for Mach3 in the list and their is an uninstaller that will remove it.

I would suggest you go  to device manager and delete the Mach pulsing engine and see if that cures your issues.

I do not have any Mach3 related items behind the Windows Start button.
If I click on any of the Mach3 icons on my desktop, I get a G76 thread cutter calculator?
I did see that someone else had an issue and deleteing the pulsing engine had potential.
I did delete it from my machine but there was no change.

I can't believe there is no uninstall procedure?
The unistall.xml file is 60 pages.
Will I have to go through and manually delete every file listed on there?

I'm not off to a good start here?

There should be a shortcut even if you installed to Program Files I would have thought, I just tried it and there was and also the Uninstall there worked fine.

Try doing a system restore to before the time you installed Mach and see if that helps.
Next time just let Mach install to its default C:\Mach3.

The default at install was C:/Program Files.
The Video agrees with you.
I didn't get the option and just thought that it would build the Mach3 folder itself?

I'll try to restore to an earlier point.

Well I have been using Mach for about 7 or more years and as far as I can remember the default it wants to install to was  always C:\MachX where the X is the version, ie Mach2 or Mach3. So it seems strange that yours would choose Program Files and I dont have a clue why it would.

So I just did a reinstall and the default was C:Mach3.
I manually changed it to C:/Program Files and it installed it at C:/Program Files/Mach3.
So it built its own folder called Mach3.
Now, behind the Windows Start button, there is an icon for Mach3 and in the sub menu there is an uninstall option.
But this option will not uninstall the files at C:/Program Files.

I am still having the other problems?
And the program filles are still at C:/Program Files?

This is really frustrating and time consuming.

The restore point didn't work either.

Sorry dont follow, first why change it to programme files? Just delete the files from Programme Files if you want rid of them.

Hood, I think he WANTS the program in that (Program) directory, and not the default directory. Is this correct, MSS?

Yes I think I am seeing that now but I if I understand he is expecting the uninstall to delete the ones in the programme files folder (not the Mach3 in folder ones) but the ones installed previously which for some reason didnt have the uninstaller loaded.. Well thats not going to happen as the uninstaller will only delete where they were installed to in that install.
No problem anyway, just manually delete them, if unsure what ones then arrange the icons as last modified in programme files and that should show them up in order so make it easier to delete.

I understand about the uninstaller, but what I don't understand is why this needs to be in the programs list to start with for him?

MSS, why not just leave it as the default installation?

Here is my problem
#1 - I downloaded Mach3 yesterday.
#2 - It runs fine, as far as I can tell.
#3 - With nothing else different, other than loading Mach3, my computer is not running right.

What I need
#1 - How do I uninstall the files?
#2 - I don't care where they are located
#3 - something in the Mach3 install is interfering with my laptop.

I want to purchase to license to run Mach3 and LazyCam.
I don't care what the file name is or where it is but I cant do anything until I get my laptop to run right.

Arranging them as last modified won't work because the dates are not relevant and there are files from other programs there, too.

Delete them from where you installed them. arranging as last modified should put them in order of first installed to last and you can check the dates of them by looking at each files properties (right click then properties) You will see 3 dates, first will be when it was created, ie when installed .

The only thing that is likely to cause issues is the driver and that is deleted from device manager.

Also worth mentioning is Laptops are not officially supported unless using an external motion controller, this is not because it causes problems with laptops but that laptops can cause problems with Mach, ie do not pulse well due to all the power saving features.

I'm still having problems!!!!!!
The three dates listed are not relative to the date I installed the program.
That is not going to work.

Is there a list of files that is installed and to what directory they are installed to?

I am going to have to re format my hard drive if I cant get this fixed.

ANY HELP PLEASE????

I hate to be rude but I'm pretty sure I've explained my problem thoroughly.

Thanks

Mach only installs files to where you installed so that is where they will be and is impossible for anyone to tell you where as you seem not to have installed to the default loaction. As for a list of what actually gets installed the easy way would be to install to a location that has nothing else in it, such as the default path and then you can see what gets installed. There are a few registry entries but I am sure they are just associated with file association for m3p and the flash screens (forget the extensions)
I think your best idea is to format then install again to the default folder this time.
