Title: s curve
Post by: Bill_O on November 01, 2010, 12:10:36 PM
I have a very heavy gantry machine and after consulting with the servo experts they recommend that I use a controller that has s curve accel and decel. I am using brains and macros for a lot of custom options on this machine.
I do not think Quantum will let me use brains and do not know about macros and the custom screen sets I have.
Will s curve be included in the next mach?
How about external control boards?
All help greatly appreciated.

Bill,

Have you read all the stuff on the Tempest Trajectory Planner, adjustable 'Jerk' etc. ?

I am reading it now. I might be willing to give it a try. This is a huge machine that I need high accel and decel on. Have you used Tempest? Is it something I can just add to the Mach or what?

Bill,

It can just be added and selected, or not, on startup (full instructions in thread).

I must admit that I don't understand all the in's and out's but it certainly seems a lot better with 3D (.stl) files.

Tempest works awesome for 2D stuff, too. You can set it to get CV on tangent lines and no rounded corners. However, you can't use the Pause or FRO with it. Probably some other stuff as well. I really wish it was a permanent option.

+1 on making it a permanent addition to mach3.
