Title: help with pci pp card
Post by: turbothis on October 15, 2010, 11:51:08 PM
i pieced together a computer for my mill and got a mobo without a  pp in it. so i get a cheap card to run the pp.
it comes up with some different address for the mach to use and i try that with no joy.
in the bios there is 0/zero setting to adjust parallel port. no mention of it anywhere. ecp or the other settings......

is this my issue?
can this mobo really not even run a parallel port card?

thanks matt

If you have the correct address entered then it should work, however some PCI cards are not true ports and only do software emulation. That is good enough for things like printers but not good enough for Mach. Your computer will not be the problem if you have the right PCI card. The one you have may be ok or it may not, see if you can find updated drivers for it as that may help.

post a picture of the PP card, or a decription of the chipset. Mine used a MosChip setup which works superbly, however a small trianglar card I used was absolute rubbish and didn't even come up with a proper port address  o_0  Like Hood said, some are better than others, some are just crap.

wow,
before with the crappy pc, my knee mill would do 25ipm rapid on the table and 10ipm on the knee. now it does 80 on the table and 15 on the knee!!!
i was sure that old pc was slowing down my machine and now have the proof of it.

again thanks
