Title: axis change direction
Post by: ardsranger on September 23, 2010, 01:11:45 AM
it seem several times, when i use my mill, i have to check to make sure
my x y and z more the correct direction. If they dont sometime unplugging the 5 volt and plugging it back in will fix it.
some times i have to change the direction of the mill so it cuts the correct way , same as the dro.
any suggestion are welcome, Im getting pretty sick of doing this.

Check your connections to your Dir wiring if that all looks fine then if you attach your xml I will have a look and see if I can find a problem.

xml looks fine from first looks, only thing I see id you are sharing port 3 pin 8 between two different OEM Triggers, that may or may not cause problems depending on what you are doing with the triggers.

Does the DRO always show it moving the correct way? If so then its likely to be a hardware problem, either bad wiring connection, Dir signals picking up noise or possibly a bad breakout or drive.

I will check my mill in a bit ,, but im pretty shure the shared Pins are
Estop on table and estop on MPG. but i will check, I cant get to my mill at the moment.

The DRO show the direction the g code is telling the table to move.

IT HAS NEVER changed after i have mill up.
The random direction is only when i start the mill.
expample

x is going wrong direction
i change X to move other way, and it says that way as long as i dont turn off the mill. Days at a time if i leave mill up

It does not always move the wrong way.

Im wondering if it is the ORDER I start my mill?

What is the best order to start stuff up? I have 3 things that have to be started.

5 volt for break out and Controller
Power supply for servo's
PC

I think the PC and Mach 3 has to be started first, what is next of the 2 left?

Normally there is no need to have a set routine to start things up, some people that use the parallel port will boot the computer first before turning on the hardware due to the interrogating of the port windows does on start up.

What I would suggest is you check with a voltmeter on a Dir pin and see which way it is for 5v and which way for 0v, then when you have the problem again check to see if its still the same. If it is then its a hardware issue, if its not then its a PC/Mach issue.

What type of servo drives and breakout board do you have?
