Title: Threading trouble
Post by: motorworks on September 13, 2010, 06:53:34 PM
Hi
I am running Mach 2.63 lathe.
I have been usingit for over a year plus...before that I ran Turbo
about  4 months ago I was running about 20 parts with threads
At about # 18 the threading goes 'mad' and crashes...tool bit digs in hard and heads for the chuck all out...
Did not think much of it that day....but spoke to a good friend who says "there is a problem with threading"
Up to that point i did several 50 plus lots of m9-1,25 with no problems...

Today I am running a program to thread 12 pcs 1/2-13 nc
I run off 9 with no problems....watched it like a hawk....LoL
Put in # 10 and walked over to the Colchester to shoulder some blanks...
and Shiq it happens again...tool bit digs in hard and heads for the chuck...
All else is find...turned 40 blanks to o.455" earlier and all were +0.000, -0.0005".
Any suggestions....hair is just about pulled out

Update, a lot of work was done fairly recently on threading and the parallel port driver.

ps Do you still have the Tos?

If you are meaning the manual lathe then technically yes, I paid for it but never got it as the guy kept messing about regards transport so in the end I gave it up as a bad joke. Got a Colchester Triumph instead which IMO is a big step down from a TOS. The headstock sounded like a cement mixer so fitted a servo and bypassed all the gearing and its much nicer. I also now have a big Churchill Computurn lathe that runs Mach, its  Iron is a Tarnow (Polish), these East Europeans know how to build things solid :)
