Title: Motor Tuning / Different Computers - Same Machine
Post by: tulsaturbo on July 12, 2010, 03:55:04 PM
Between my 3 computers running Mach3, each one has different (steps per inch) settings under motor tuning for the same cnc machine.

I have always wondered about that since backing up my mach settings for the motor tuning won't apply on another pc.

Has anyone run into this scenario?

I just reuse my XML file on different pc's and never ran into what you are experiencing. I am guessing, done that for
5 pc's or so, and, they are like night and day in makeup.

May I ask what version of Windows you are running. I run XP. I tried copying the XML file, but when I run the machine, the measurements are way off so I have to redo the step on each axis which leads to different numbers to get the measurements correct.

Cant see how that is possible, a step is a step.
How much of a difference s there between the different computers?

Tulsaturbo,

As Hood has said 'steps are steps' and these are calculated from the relevant axis motor steps, lead screw pitch, micro step setting and any gearing used - they have no changing relationship with the computer that is used.
