I prefer Screen4 but a lot prefer MachScreen, both available from the downloads page. There should be a few videos in the Screen section showing how to use Screen4 and  one on the video page http://www.machsupport.com/videos/ down at the bottom.
You can either edit a standard screen or make a new one from scratch. You will also likely need the OEM list which you will either find on the wiki or there is a downloadable xls file in one of the stickies at the top of this forum page.

It is OEM codes for buttons DROs LEDs etc, some of them are available in screen4 from drop down lists in buttons etc but some are not and you have to enter the OEM code for whatever you are wanting the button to be.

You will find MachScreen the easiest to use.

I could just about manage a button with Screen4  ::)

I have redone the lathe screen using Machscreen it is on the Beta screens forum

You can download it from the products page from this website http://www.kd-dietz.de/index_eng (http://www.kd-dietz.de/index_eng)

That is why i do not use Screen4, it is too hard, quirky, need i go on.

I think i know who voted for it, a lone voice in the wilderness ;D ;D ;D

Pick one of the sizes you want.

Now it is very easy to put an element way outside the page BY MISTAKE and when it's opened in Mach you will get a tiny little page.

But MachScreen allows you to set a maximum page size so that can't happen

do me a favour, open  task manager and look at page file then open Mach Screen and see what you get. I tried MachScreen at the workshop the other day and it slowed my system to a crawl, its not an ultra modern system at the workshop but its no Jurassic park inhabitant either.

Yes seems to be the same on all  my computers, round about 730 to 750Meg. Not an issue with my desktop here but certainly my workshop one wasnt happy.

To be honest I am not really bothered at the moment as I dont use  it. Only reason I looked was it will likely be the designer of choice with Rev4 of Mach. It is a powerful programme from first glance but for what I do its not needed.

I am not surprised it will be used for REV 4

Yes it is very powerful,l but the main thing is it's so easy.

I like looking at all the slightly out of position elements of the wizard set files

In 10 mins they are all the same size where needed and perfectly aligned, no one can do that in Screen4 that easily otherwise they would be right to begin with.  ;D ;D ;D

Hi Hood,

I didn't think memory space would be a problem. But if it is, no problem. I reduced the program memory space in version V1.38.f.

I have used both Screen4 and Machscreen for detailed screen designs. Since I switched over to Machscreen my productivity has increase 3 folds. My vote goes to Machscreen.

My vote goes to MachScreen. I used it the other day for the first time and found it very intuative and the layout is simple, very similar to the Visual Basic development software I sometimes use where you have a window sidebar selection to change the properties.

Only two annoyances I found, The dropdown box for the selection of Mach screen page. With the previous version it worked ok, I downloaded and install the latest version
and found the box does not dropdown so you have to click the scroll until your numbers there and then select.

The other thing happened with both versions, on saving the file I get a errorbox  with filename name or directory name syntax wrong but it saves ok.

All in all, It works without weird things happening and you can make changes to you screen easily.

Hi cjmerlin,

did you deinstall the old version before you installed v1.38.f?
When do you get the save error, when saving, or saving as?
Could you please give me the complete error message?

do you have white space characters in the path filename?

Ah, That could be it, I have been saving a file called "ZX Mill",  Machscreen is saving it as "ZXMill".

This could also be causing the other problem that when Mach3 starts I have no screen loaded because my XML is called "ZX Mill"

My OS is Win2000

Hi cjmerlin,

there is still the problem with the combobox, which doesn't expand. Could you uninstall all older versions and install version V1.38.f or V1.38.g. If the problem is still the same, could you please send me your set-file and tell me what you have done step by step?
You can find my email address under the help menu.

forgot to try the MachScreen yesterday but have just done it. My workshop computer is much happier now and I dont notice any slowdown.
I do notice my DROs don't show the proper colour on the screen even though there is the proper colour showing in the info box, see pic.

Ahh operator error.  ;D ;D ;D

If you select two elements that overlap you can swap the layers to get the correct visual appearance, it's on the right click menu

Hi Hood,

I'm not sure. the problem is overlapping two elements. How is you skin look alike? Could you please check "Show overlaying elements for selection" in options -> Settings sheet Generic prog settings. Click the DRO. Does a window popup showing more than 1 element. If so, what elements are shown?

Hi Hood,

if you want, I could take a deeper look into it, but to do that, I would need your set-file and the bitmaps. An easy way to take all the files needed is "project export".

Hi Klaus, I uninstalled the old one, there was only one version on the pc. I downloaded the latest version from your website and now the "save" and "save as" lets you have spaces between ie: "ZX Mill.set"

I'm still getting the error box come up though.

I am in no rush to solve this, if no-one else has picked this up then it must be a quirk in my setup.
The set file I am working with below. All recent work on the settings page, just a few buttons with embedded code.

As I attached the file, It just occured that my Mach folder i'm using is called Mach3New as I have 2 versions of mach on the pc.
Would it be the cause?

Cheers
John

HI

@Hood, I got your set-file. It's not a matter of overlaying elements, its a matter of blending. I can't tell you, how long it's goon take.

@John, I think, its because of W2k.  What kind of file-system are you using, FAT32, or NTFS?

Klaus

Hi Klaus, Fat32.

I also have the same problem on my desktop pc, but not on my laptop. The desktop pc's hd partition is fat32 and the laptop's is NTFS. But since it doesn't hurt much so I didn't bother to report it.

Hi, I'm glad it's not just me then. I've had a week of weird stuff happening. Still as you say it's not a problem that is serious
I just thought I'd mention it. The drop down box was more of an inconvenience.

But for all that MachScreen is a wonderful program, so much so that I managed to do all the screen work in an afternoon
As before all my work with the screen took days to work out the problems.

Hi,

I found the reason why an error is reported by save and save as. When MachScreen executes "save" or "save as" it stores the file-set data and the window-sizes and the lock-bits. These data is stored in a "ADS". These "alternate data streams" don't exist in FAT file-systems. I will change that, if the data are stored to a FAT, or FAT32 file-system, frame-sizes and lock-bits will not be stored.

Thanks a lot Klaus for the fix. Save and Saveas functions are ok now. The same error window now appears every 10 minutes and I have to click it off. Again, I say, it's not much a bother. Just wanted you to know.
