what can I use to drive a dc motor as a spidle lathe.
Vmax 80v
Amax 20A

You may get away with using a Gecko G320 as I believe that is their top rating. There are other drives around that will handle more voltage and current, the Whale and Dugong from cncdrives.com may be worth looking at.
