Title: For Wizard Loving Lathe Users
Post by: M250cnc on December 29, 2009, 11:02:16 PM
Not everyone goes looking for stuff and its amazing what you can miss.

I have redone the standard lathe screen but without the jumping around on the menus

There are three main screens and i have added a cool feature in that the wizards are now part of the screen set

You can get more details and view pics here http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,13548.0.html (http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,13548.0.html)

Help!!  Every time I install Mach3 for a lathe, I lose the wizards for the lathe.  When I use the drop down to select a wizard, the wizards for the mills comes down.  I have re-installed Mach3 numerous times and every time I do it changes the wizards drop downs to mill wizards.  How do I get the lathe wizards to drop down on my lathe setup?

Does the screenset you use have the .set extension? If so then thats your problem, it needs a .lset extension.

Yes it is a .set extension.  I found the .lset view file but no matter what I do, I can't open it to get to the lathe wizards.  Is there a way to fix this?  Thanks for the quick response.

All you need to do is load a screenset with a .lset  extension then restart Mach and your turn wizards should be fine.

Thanks.  While you were typing your answer, I went over to my shop and pulled the XML file up and it was telling Mach3 to load .set instead of .lset.  I changed that in my XML file and it is now FIXED.  Now the only problem is every threading program I tried to have the Wizard write came up with an error in line 8 and I do mean every program.  Are you aware of this problem or is it just my inputs?  Thanks again.

No problems for me with threading.
What does line 8 have on it?

I AM HEADED HOME FOR DINNER BUT WILL CHECK IT OUT TOMORROW AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT LINE 8 IS SAYING.  THANKS AGAIN.

Hood,

Well, I got up this morning and started my Mach3 Lathe and the wizard screen was back to being the mill wizards again.  I went back into the xml file I am using and changed the screen set back to .lset and started it up again.  It was the lathe wizards until I tried to go to the 1024 screen and it went back to the mill wizards again.  Frustrating.  What am I doing wrong?

The Line 8 G Code that keeps coming up with errors from a test program written by the lathe wizard reads as follows:  G76 X0.4 Z1 Q1 P0.05 J0.006 L45 H0.022 I29 C0.025 B0.0001 T0

Keep in mind, this was just some numbers plugged into the wizard to see how it wrote the G Code.

You are loading the 1024.set rather than the 1024.lset by the sounds of it. Go to view menu then load screens, you will then see a drop down box at the bottom of the window that opens, choose .lset from the list and you will then see the Turn screensets for you to choose from.

I will have a look at your code in a bit, gotta go down to a boat to change over some hydraulics.

Sorry forgot all about this :(
Ok just had a look and the only reason I can see you get the error is because you are using a .set screenset which in effect turns MachTurn into MachMill. Because Mach thinks its a mill G76 is not recognised. If you load the .lset screen then restart Mach then I think you should be fine.

Hood,
Sorry I haven't gotten back before now.  Thanks again for all your help and patience.  I have tried everything but Mach3 still keeps reverting back to the 1024.set screen.  I have tried to change the setting in my XML file to .lset but that doesn't work, I have physically went into the run screen of Mach3 and used the drop down screen and went to the lathe directory and then checked .lset but the end result is that it keeps going back to 1024.set.  If you have any more ideas before I try to reinstall Mach3 for the 100th time, let me know.  This has been very frustrating.  I can not for the life of me understand why changing the XML file to default to .lset doesn't fix it.  Thanks again for all your help.

Yes, I could but it won't mean anything.  I make sure that in notepad that it reads .lset but when the first screen comes up in Mach3, I selledt "AUTO", and then go to view and try to select .lset, all that is there is .set.  I have done this now at least 20 times and it does that every time.

I can make sure that the XML calls out .lset but after I go thru the above process it is .set.  When the first basic startup screen comes up when you start Mach3, if you go to loas wizards, the lathe wizards are there but when you try to get the 1024.set the .lset is gone.

I hope I explained this well enough for you to understand what is happening.

I explained how you can see the .lset from the view menu, you possibly missed it? What to do is go to view then Load Screen, a window will open. At the bottom of that window is a box that says as default Mill files (*.set) if you expand the list you can select Turn files (*.lset), that will allow you to see the turn screensets available to you. See the pic below.
If you still have issues then please attach your xml as I will have a look and see if I can figure out why you are having these issues.

I will give this a try the first thing in the morning.  I think I have already done this but I will go over it step by step again to see if I missed something.  Mike

Hood,  As I suspected, when I tried this morning to AGAIN follow your instructions, it just won't allow me to default to the 1024.lset file.  I believe you are correct when you say Mach3 believes that I installed this software as a Mill application.  I am ready to forward my XML file but don't know how to do that within this application.  Will I need your email address?

use the additional options on the reply page to browse to your xml. You will however have to rename it first if it is  a standard named xml as the forum will only accept a file name once. If thats the case then copy the xml to your desktop and rename it pppmike.xml and the forum will accept it.

I have opened and closed and opened your profile half a dozen times and each time it loads correctly with the lathe screenset, see pic, so I dont know where the issue lies. I however notice you have a MPG set up and the A Channel is sharing the same pin as your E-Stop so that needs changing.

If you see the same screenset as in the pic then the only thing I can think of is to reload Mach over the top of itself to see if that helps.

Yes, I do get this screen BUT I AM TRYING TO GET THE 1024.LSET SCREEN, NOT THIS SCREEN.  When I try to load the 1024.lset screen, it turns back to mill wizards.  I hope you understand now what I am talking about.  I do not want to use this screen but rather the 1024 screen.

That is the 1024.lset, what you seem to be wanting is the 1024.set, ie the mill screen.
If you copy the 1024.set to your desktop, rename it pppmike.lset then paste it back into the Mach3 folder then load it you should be fine as far as the wizards etc go, not sure having the extra axi etc will be that great but you could always edit the screen to look like you want.
I made my own screenset up for the lathe as I am not keen on the standard lathe screen (1024.lset as in my pic)

You got it!!  I am not crazy about the screen that is coming up at all for the lathe.  I will work with it and see if I can get use to it.  If not, I will probably be trying to make my own screen set up too.  Thanks for all your help.

You can use the mill screen if you wish as I said above, all you need to do is change the extension to .lset rather than .set
It is the extension of the screenset that determines whether Mach is in Lathe or Mill mode.

I am just going to try and learn to work with the standard lathe screen.  If I end up hating it, I will ask Rich if he can forward to me the .lset modified screen to me.  Thanks to everyone, Mike.

Mike,
Yes,  use the standard lathe screen to start and if it works for you stay with it, but, then try  the other screen set and see the added features
which makes using the lathe so  much easier.
Here is a the link to PHILs screen:
