Title: 'Local System Rotated'
Post by: BClemens on December 24, 2009, 08:33:50 AM
Is there a way to utilize Feed Hold while in a rotated running program? Appears that the system must make a correction after a feed hold and physically go to and return from the normal program at the point of the feed hold. Quite a surprise! - Maybe use block by block for a few? Someone no doubt knows the trick here....(besides not using feed hold).

Thanks much,  (and 'Merry Christmas All' too!)

Doesn't anyone use this feature?

It allows a part to be machined conveniently in a position that the vice may already be set by rotating the program plus (or minus) 90 degrees for example. It's a very good and handy feature of Mach3. I use it often for logos, initialing a part or similar. The plane body was machined using this feature as well as the initial engraving. I was thinking that maybe someone had encountered this little quirk in using it. If not - be aware of this!

Hood,

I'm betting that you know the answer...

Thanks,

Bumping the thread!

I also would like an answer on this. It is a very useful feature that is unfortunately broken. I've stopped using it after scrapping a few pieces. Is there any chance that this bug can be fixed any time soon? Has anyone figured out a work-around?

I would really like to use this feature as it would be invaluable for rotating the parts to fit the available material on my router table without having to cut/rotate the sheet to avoid excess scrap.

I find it hard to believe that other people with router tables aren't also crying to have this feature fixed.

Art, are you reading this?

Thanks in advance!

The orig thread is quite old (dec 2009).
I don't know what version of mach you are running, but perhaps you need to update?

I tried this on 3.43.22 (latest development version) .
Loaded a file, rotated the WC system 5 degrees via MDI and hit cycle start.
No problem with cycle start and feed hold that I could see -

I know this is an old post, but I thought I should share my experience.  I am cutting 1.25" plate with my CNC plasma.  The plate is very heavy, so I  bring the plate into the table with our forklift.  The plate is never square with the machine axis so I have been rotating the local system after measuring the angle that the plate sits.  Making straight cuts using MDI works great with the compensated axis.

Last evening I cut a more complex part posted by Sheetcam.  It is hot here in Iowa, about 90F, and when cutting thick plate the plasma needs a break about every 30 inches.  I do this through feed hold and toggle the torch manually.  This worked fine for three feed holds.  After starting the machine after the forth hold, the axis got confused, started cutting along the machine axis.  The plate was only off by a few degrees, so it was hard to notice there was an issue, more noticeably, the axis readouts stopped responding.......I had to stop the machine with an E-stop and now I have an 80 pound bad part.

I am going to have to go back to squaring the plate manually.  If anyone has any insight, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thanks.

THe G68 is pretty much undependable for use. It is extemely useful with plasma as you know BUT it is not dependable in most cases.  You can overcome the wondering by doing a feedhold then stop then cycle start again to start. BUT for timed pauses you are better to let Scam plan the torch cooldown and NOT use feedhold in G68.

Thanks for the info.  I got around it this morning by rotating my parts in Sheetcam and using the machine zero.  Thanks again.
