Title: Current Kernel Speed
Post by: kolias on August 27, 2009, 04:36:59 PM
Yesterday I adjusted the current on my 3 drives according to manufacturer specs for 3.0A motors, set the steps per to 32000 (1/16 microstep), velocity to 50 and accl to 7. Then I did some drawings with the machine and all worked well.

Today I started the machine this morning and got this message when I fired up mach; "Warning one or more axis are tuned too fast for current Kernel speed of 25000"

What this message means?

Should I decrease the microstep to 1/8 or ?

Increase the Kernel and see if your computer is happy with it, you should manage 45KHz. You change it on Ports and Pins main page.

Guess the computer was happy at 45KHz but not the machine, got one or two motors stalling. So I decrease the step from 1/16 to 1/8 change the other settings accordingly, change the Kernel back to 25KHz, reboot and now all is fine.
