Title: Is laser cross dangerous on aluminum table top
Post by: ostie01 on May 21, 2009, 01:23:05 AM
Hi all

I have set up a laser cross to help me setup part that do not require precision.

My table top is made from anodized aluminum extrusions.

Is the refection from the laser cross can cause damage to the eyes.

It is a small laser cross that put 5mw of power.

Thanks, Jeff

I would have thought that the reflections from your table would be so diffused that it is unlikely to cause anything to anybody. The "strength" of a laser is in the ability to focus the many beams of light into a single path. No - get on with it.

The other problem with lazers and in fact high power LED's is they sometimes dont trigger the blink response.
this can lead to perminant damage to the retina from what appears to be,really a low power light source.

For sure, the beam is diffused but just wanted to be sure.
