Here's a pic of a mold I just finished. Its for lead downrigger weights for a friend who runs a charter boat on Lake Michigan.
The mold is made from 2" thick alum plate. one weight is a 20 pound , the other is 12 pounds. These are used for fishing 200 + feet deep.
I first designed these in solid works to get the correct weights needed , then imported a cad dwg into featurecam to write the code. The main body was all machined with a .500 ball end mill on the y z plane with a .030 step over. No g2 or g3. All g1 moves . The fins were done with a .250 and a .375 ball end mills. Over one million lines of code. Then a little elbow grease. Of course the finish didn't have to be that good , but then I tend to get a little carried away.

Ed, I had a guy asking about some today. I would like to talk to you about them if I can. Either get a little advise or get you to quote them if you will.

The finish was accomplished by ,
1. scotch brite wheels
2. emery paper
3. buffing wheels.
I love polished Aluminum. ;D

Indeed, I love polished aluminum as well and I do a lot of it, lol!
Nice job you have done there, Ed.

Hey Ed,
Did your fishin' buddy ever get them sinkers made ?
Wonder if you could get a pic or 2 of the finished product all painted up...assuming they get painted of course. (bet they're at least POLISHED ;D, lead will polish but you gotta be careful :P)
Might want to order the bigger one for them deep runnin' bluegills in Paps pond. :D
See ya,

R C ,
yes , he poured a bunch , but I didn't get any pics yet.
Those hang from stainless cable off the downriggers for fishing the bottom in a couple hundred feet of water in Lake Michigan.
When you come up here , I'll take you out there.
