Title: Using a Contour Design Shuffle as a pendant
Post by: dacostad on July 28, 2006, 02:51:30 PM
Hi all,

I thought you might be interested in seeing the Contour Design Shuffle that I have setup as a pendent for my Sherline CNC Mill and lathe that I am using with Mach 3.

The buttons are fairly obvious except the one labelled XZY.  This toggles the useage of the jog and shuffle wheel between each axis (a small popup on the Windows toolbar tells you what axis is in use.

The outer ring on the controller provides fast jog in each direction while the inner one provides a step by step move as you wind it around for fine movement.

The four bottom buttons are unused.

David,

Are you using this with a USB port?  Is there a config file that you can post?  I would like to get one but the new designs are slightly different but I would assume they would still work, do you know of any reason why they wouldn't?

Thanks for the info.

Dan

Yes it uses a usb port, in fact the software that comes with it allows you to have 2 shuffle connected at the same time.  You can order them direct from Contour Design (www.contourdesign.com).  The new ones will work.  I will post my config files as soon as I get to my office.  You actually use 3 configs files one for each axis and then the xzy button toggles between them.

I have the older one but the new V2 is basically the same except has 2 more buttons and is black. I also think it has macro capabilities.

Did you post your config files yet for the shuttle.  This looks like a fairly efficient way to operate. The jog and step functions on the dials should make tool touch off fast.
Thanks,
Tanimura

Where is David?

The driver for the Shuttlepro in under Downloads - FTP - Mach3 the file name is Shuttlepro.dll

Put the dll in your plugins folder under your local Mach3 install and then go into config plugin and activate and configure.

Hi,

I've got a question,
Is it possible to have e.g. the inner ring move the table quickly and the outer move the table slow..? (or the other way around)
I can't figure out how to do this. The only possibility I know of, is increasing the jog% or the inc. step. I'd rather have it fixed, e.g. 1% for the outher ring and 10% for the inner ring....perhaps it's not possible.

regards,
Adryan

I set up the two outer buttons (the black ones) to be rapid and the otter dial set to about 20% slow jog and the center as inc at .001. this makes for VERY fast movement and positioning.

hope that helps
Brian

Brian,
I think I'm not exactly clear on what you mean. I used the Rapid ++ and Rapid -- for the black buttons, this works great for rapid movement.
I've set up the jog panel (using TAB in Mach) as following:
-"STEP"
-"Steprate" 0.001
-"Slow jog rate" 5%

When using this the STEP 0.001 only works for the arrow buttons on the keyboard (pressing arrow ones moves 0.001)
When dialing the inner silver button of the Shuffle it moves a lot more then 0.001 and doesn't stop immediately when stop dialing.

Am I missing something? (I assume you mean the "step" mode when you mention "inc"?)

regards,
Adryan

There is a button that will set the center button from vel mode to inc mode... please put that button as one of the silver buttons that you have and I think is will work for you

Hello Brian,

first time when you startup Mach (after restart pc) the inner ring of the Shuttle is in vel. -mode. I think this is very dangerous because when you want to tought the workpiece (without first pressing the vel/inc button) the tool will break..:=)
Is there a option to set the Shuttle so that the button is always in inc.-mode after a restart of mach?

rgds,
Adryan

Hey folks,

I have a licensed oem copy of Mach3, and a Shuttle Pro v2 controller.  I'm trying to get it setup up but I have a few problems:

1) I do not have a plugins folder in the Mach3 root directory.  If I have to create it myself (which seems a little strange) what is the exact folder name?
2) There is no Plugin option under the Config menu in Mach3
3) There is something (at least on my computer) on the Mach3 FTP site that IE7 does not like about that Java control.  Is there any other place to get the dll?

Thanks,
mt

What revision of Mach are you using?

it's 1.84.001

I am not 100% sure but I think the plugin was from about version 1.90.035 onwards. As I said I am not 100% sure so maybe Brian or Art will confirm.

Upgrading to r2.0 gave me the PlugIns directory and the option in the Config menu - 2 problems solved!

Now - do I install the DLL or the M3P file?  If it's the DLL, is there an alternate location I can download?  As I said, I don't think IE7 likes that Java control on the FTP site.

No - based on the other posts I only knew that it was somewhere "on the FTP site"
