Title: Whats in the near future??
Post by: turbine on March 16, 2009, 04:17:15 AM
I have been away for a couple of months now and have done some searching around for Quantum and where its at.
It seems that there is not much happening there.

I was wondering if anyone of the many great people in the mach 3 team could give us a bit of a summary as to where things are at in general with mach 3 and the 3rd Order planner that was to be in quantum?

Maybe there could be a "comming soon" notice board for people in the know, to post where you are at?

Cheers,
James

My impression is Quantum is dead.  I think they've incrementally upgraded Mach3 to the point that it is what Quantum was supposed to be.  Brian has done a pretty complete re-write of an awful lot of the core Mach3 code.

Quantum was just a test for the 3rd order planner. Since Brian is basically on his own as far as development goes, Quantum is currently dead, as he fixes all the bugs and makes Mach3 as solid as possible. Whenever he finishes that, then you can start to look for Mach's successor. My guess is it may be years away.
