Title: computer problem
Post by: tubular2000 on July 26, 2006, 05:19:39 PM
hi all,

i am using mach 3 on a lathe with a clone computer and a campbell breakout board, and everything is working fine. now my hard disk is going to die very soon, some times it starts some times not. so i decided to replace it with another computer i already have wich is an hp vectra. i configure everything the same and follow the steps in the optimization procedure, but there is nothing coming out of the parralel port. is there any know issues regarding hp computers and mach 3? i ran the driver test and it works.

You sure you have the right address for the port? Just if you have set the same as old computer and new one may use a different address.

same address 378.

is there a way to test the parralel port other than hooking a printer that i don't have on hand? the lpt1 properties page says everything is fine

You can put a volt meter on the pins
With one lead on a pin and the other on a ground you should see voltages when you jog an axis. egĀ  If you haveĀ  pin 2 as x Dir pin connect one lead of the meter to it and the other to ground. you should get a 5v reading when you jog one way and 0v when the other.

Oh also just make sure in ports and pins, motor outputs that you have port 1 set for each pin.

sometimes you are proud of you, sometimes not! the old computer has a pin set up for the charge pump, and i forgot it while configuring the new one!
