Title: Scream4 Crashing!!
Post by: HimyKabibble on February 27, 2009, 01:13:35 PM
I've gone a long way towards creating my screen set, but, now all of a sudden, I have a couple of buttons which, when I select them in Scream4, causes the entire screenset display to go blank!  At first, I had one, then I changed the OEM code on another button, and now it's doing the same thing.  Any ideas how to get around this?  If I can't, I've just wasted an awful lot of time....

Regards,
Ray L.

Can you right click on them and change them to a built in function and see if that helps. Then, if you can, delete them and replace them.

That's all I have, as I've never had this problem myself.

Gerry,

Unfrotunately, these are normal, non-image, buttons, which don't respond to right click, only double-click.  Single or double-click causes the crash.

Scream4 is one seriously buggy SOB....

OK, if you do a drag-select AROUND the flaky control, you can select it, then delete it.  I just wish I knew what made it go wonky....

Ray, did you assign those buttons oem code 1-100? These are for pages and just wondering if they are takeing you to a blank page. When it does this, do you have the tool bar at the top of the page still? If so you can choose the page number from the drop down.

Can also shift-click them to select them.

Brett,

I'm not sure anyone what I had done there, but I found a way to delete the buttons, so I'm past that headache, and onto the next one.  How on earth would one know about that problem?  I'm using a speadsheet containing the OEM codes.  Sounds like some are OK to use, some are not under different circumstances?

Ray, that really isn't a problem if that is what happened. It is supposed to open a blank screen, you have to add a button or choose from the drop down what page you want to navigate to. I think I may have picked that info. up from one of the tutorial videos, can't remember really. But what really made it stick with me was haveing a problem as you described.......... school of hard knocks.

Some of the OEM codes were depracted and I can't remember the range but I do remember you had to add 800 to them. That info. is on the Wiki though.

Ray, the bug in Screen 4 that was the toughest for me to figure out was this. If you design your screen in a res. that is so low you have to scroll.  Put a button at the top, scroll to bottom and put a button, scroll back to the top and you can't edit that button now. Same thing for left or right scrolling I do believe. I always have extra room to the right and bottom of my screen while designing. I also use that area for a scratch pad and diagnostics.

Brett,

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff that makes you tear your hair out when you don't use it often enough to remember all the quirks.

Brett,

I saw an old post where you mentioned that bug.  I haven't had that problem (yet...).  I've already got most of it working, in 1024x768, so I hope I don't run into that problem before I finish.

The new screen works really well on the 20" LCD on my machine - If anything, the buttons and all are TOO big!  I now have much of the functionality up and running with Mickey-Mouse graphics, so the next big effort is creating the many new graphics doo-dads for the "real" version.  What I've got now is below.

As per Ger21 in another screen thread....

A little tip to make the DRO's look better. In Mach3's general config, uncheck the box that says "boxed DRO's and graphics". Bottom center in the screen control section.

and it will fix the lines in the DRO's :)
