Title: G31 Bug?
Post by: HimyKabibble on February 18, 2009, 10:48:29 PM
When I do a "G31 Z-0.5000", the Z axis starts moving, and keeps going forever.  Isn't it supposed to stop when it reaches the target position of -0.5000. if it hasn't seen the probe input go active?

Regards,
Ray L.

Thought I would try this and mine does the same - 'no probe, no stop'.

Update.

Restarted Mach and it works fine now - stops as it is supposed to. Could it have been something left in a buffer from the previous program ?.

Hi Himy,

After trying many possibilities it only happens when 'Machine Coordinates' are checked. So uncheck and problem solved perhaps ?.

Ray - As far as I can see, G31 works on Program Co-ordinates only - in other words the number you put in the command refers to the program co-ordinate, not the machine co-ordinate, Perhaps you were looking at the Machine Co-ordinates when you did this.

Ray

Is this with the SmoothStepper or LPT ?

Makes no difference whether I'm in machine or user coordinates.  I zero both, issue the G31, and off it goes, never to stop.  I"m just doing it in simulation, right now, no machine at all.

Turns out, G31 does not work right if you don't have the PP driver installed.....

I take it you mean the Mach 3 drivers installed - because it seems to work alright on both my computers, one with and one without machines attached, but both with drivers..
